DkS Personal Name Pronunciations

So, as the thread title says, I thought it'd be fun if we all posted how each of us pronounce, or I guess pronounced, the names of characters in the game, considering now that there are a good amount of generally agreed on 'correct' pronunciations. So spell out whatever of the names you'd like phonetically to illustrate your own pronunciations. Just to be clear, this is not a thread for correcting each other on how to pronounce these names. More just meant to be a fun illustration of our collective pronunciation incompetence.

I'll start:

Up until recently, when I realized Solaire states his own name when he introduces himself to you, I pronounced his name: so-LA-ray

I also definitely pronounce Ornstein as Ornst-een, as opposed to Ornst-eyen, which I've heard is supposedly most correct. I can't help it. I grew up in a very Jewish neighborhood, where most names ended in stein pronounced steen. So that's how it's going to be.

I also pronounce Lautrec- Law-trek, with a slight roll of the R, because that's the proper pronunciation of the famous artist by the same name, who I believe inspired the naming of the character.

I also pronounce Ornstein, Ornsteen. I also like to butcher Smough and Gough's names by using the long "O" sound of go.

I pronounce Solaire as "Sole-Air"
Lautrec = "Law-Treck"

But wait...Some of these characters have their names said in game.

I'm pretty sure that's how he says it also. I didn't realize it until recently, because after my first couple playthroughs I've generally just skipped through all the dialogue.

Smough = Sm-O , long O

Gough = Go , again long O

Solaire = Soul - air

Artorias = AR - TOR - EE - is

Quelaag = Q-LAG? there are like 10 F-ing vowels in this word......

Lautrec = Law-Trek , Like star Trek

Lost Izalith = Lost Is-ah-Lith or is it I-zah-lith?

Tolvo = Toll-Voe? :shock:

Quelaag = Quay-Log
Artorias = ar-TORE-e-us
Lost Izalith = Lost-I-zah-lith

I pronounce Lost Izalith as "ee-zah-LEETH"

Kwee-lag = Queelag

Berenike = bairon-eek-ay, although now that I think about it nike could be a reference to the Greek nike, which I think is pronounced like the shoe.

Nike in Greek is how you have pronounced it. Nigh-kee, as in the shoe company, is for English only.

for me Smough = 'Smog' but at first i pronounced Gough as 'Gaug'
I don't know why, it doesn't even feel natural to say it like that. I quickly changed to calling him 'Gog'.

Quelaag = Kwaylahg for me, i don't think anyone's mentioned that pronunciation yet.

I'm not sure how Plastic managed to pronounce it as So-la-ray

Ornstein = Orn-steyen
Artorias = Ar-tor-ee-us
Izalith = I-zah-lith

And how else would one pronounce Lautrec if not Law-trek?

edit: wait why are we mentioning how to pronounce Izalith? It's said in the intro video!

Joseph Ducreux here is answering the question i myself asked earlier: there are in fact different ways to pronounce Lautrec other than Law-trek.

Eye-zah-lith is also how i and i think several people pronounce it. However if you listen to the intro video i think you can hear it's actually with a short i.

Edit: scrape that second part, the intro says eye-zah-lith

Eingyi actually says it at one point in his dialogue too, and I'm pretty sure that's how he says it too, but that's not going to change the way I hear it in my head.

BTW Eingyi = eye-in-GEE
