Did Oscar journey to the DLC
We are all quite aware that Oscar attempted to the Chosen Undead journey before coming to free you from the Asylum. My question is did he journey to the past and if he did do we think he succeded? We know he was in the area as we find his armor in Darkroot Garden, though I'm not sure he got past Sen's (I think he did but I maybe wrong.) If he didn't get past Sen's then this whole topic is void, but I have another offer.
Do we believe he would have defeated all who we encountred if he did venture into the DLC?

Re: Did Oscar journey to the DLC
There is a pic of him fighting the sanctuary guardian so we know he made it into the DLC. And since technically every developer message comes from him we know he got at least into the chasm.

And he only drops 100 souls :/ I always thought he was mortally wounded by the Asylum Demon until I came onto the forums. I still consider that a possiblity.

Re: Did Oscar journey to the DLC
I swear out of all the NPCs in Dark Souls Oscar is the most mysterious to me. I really wonder how far he got in Lordran before he saved us? If the armor in the garden was his, I can see how he was having trouble in his mission. However the thing I don't get is why did he travel to the asylum when he aleast made it to the garden (probably looking for Artorias' grave)? Was he looking for help?

Re: Did Oscar journey to the DLC
I assumed he fought the Asylum Demon on the roof until he was smashed down through the roof into the roof where you find him... Thats how he is mortally wounded.
But I like to think it was he who hurt the Asylum Demon enough that you could kill it.

Re: Did Oscar journey to the DLC
Dough, I went back to read your "there's more to them" post on Oscar since its been awhile since I read what you had to post on him. In there you mention he likely broke his legs or his back falling down the hole, but if you walk out of the area he is in then run back you can actually catch him standing up to off himself, so I don't think the problem was with his legs, and if you listen to the unused dialogue it sounds a lot more like he had internal bleeding.. or something along those lines.
Just thought I would point that out here, and get your opinion? I haven't gone back through the whole thread to read if someone else brought this up there, and this thread seems just as good a place as any.
EDIT: urp, that was a creepy simultaneous post.

Re: Did Oscar journey to the DLC
Hmm...If you combine Yukon's internal bleeding theory withViralEnsign_ theory that Oscar fought the Aslyum Demon before us it makes sense.
I'm going with I think was his plan so here goes: After realizing the extent of Lordran's danger Oscar had to find an ally to travel with him and Petrus or that petty knight (if there) would not help him by duty or not caring. So the aslyum, where the undead go hollow was his best bet. He travels there (probably by that bird) where he encounters the Demon. The two engage in fierce combat where Oscar weakened it before fleeing due to his injuries were he found us. Dying from his injuries, his final mission fell to us.
It makes sense that the demon was weakened since the other demon is much harder to kill by comparasion. Any ideas?

Re: Did Oscar journey to the DLC
It might also be interesting to note that the crestfallen warrior mentions, at one point, that he saw the bird fly away with a MAN curled up in a ball.
It could be that his time and ours are somewhat different, and he saw Oscar hitching a ride back to the asylum. When we return we are greeted by Black Knights and the Peculiar doll, I recall you touching on this before dough and Tolvo, but I don't remember what you two had to say about it.. Do you think Oscar was also hiding the doll and was being hunted by black knights? Or did you think it was Tarkus or someone else? Something else completely?

@Yukon It's hard to think Oscar was hiding the doll. He doesn't give it to you and he's trying ot help you. Its possible that Oscar was enemy's with the BKs and that the BKs guarding the doll are there to hide it from the world.

Re: Did Oscar journey to the DLC
Okay after reading Dough's theory on Oscar, I think I have a better clarity from what I knew.
Dough said that our times are perhaps different but closely intertwined. He could have made it past Anor Londo killing the bosses we would face at our time before giving up as his armor description said. I think he found a way to put himself in our world better as a whole being than the eye orbs and soapstone method we use which last till the host is dead or their boss is dead. Since he died and went hollow in our time, it was until we returned to end his misery that he returned to his time where his hollow form died to the grass things(forgot the name).
That being said Yukon, if we take the black knight armor description that they wander Lordran, and add my theory that they still serve Gwyn somehow, the knights may have found Oscar and tried to kill him to end his mission. If Oscar was smart he may have left the doll to be found by us and do what he tried to do in the painting. I can't think of a reason why Tarkus would though. What do you think Dough?

Re: Did Oscar journey to the DLC
I mentioned Tarkus because I thought either Tolvo or Dough had a theory on that in the past, but it might have been someone else here who presented that. Maybe Wyrm or Acidic... I don't recall it was quite awhile ago. I was mostly wondering if the idea had been grown upon or if it was not regarded anymore.
I think I agree with what Dough has said about it not being Oscar as well, since he had ample time to pass it on, unless he doubted us...
Also now that I think of it, wasn't Oscar in line with Frampt? at least he mentioned following the 'sage frampt', and in the unused dialogue seems to liken the serpent to the sage when you talk with the two of them. I'm not sure that makes him less, or more of a threat to Gwyn, but I doubt either way that Gwyn has the mental capacity to send his knights on missions, more likely they are taking issues upon themselves. ... Or maybe I am just blowing air, but its either this or working on examples of Hardy Wienberg questions... so thanks to every one for stringing me along, haha.

Re: Did Oscar journey to the DLC
Its really hard to tell whose side Oscar is on. Originally he was going to be your rival and simply take the opposite side to you. And while hee talks about keeping the torch lit and stuff he also goes into the PW (assumedly) for the dark ember.

Re: Did Oscar journey to the DLC
Yukon considering that Oscar may have realized he would fail and the fact that he was dying, it would be a good idea as any to give to get us out. I got three ideas of what Oscar may have been thinking at the time.
One: Oscar was being merciful on us by not letting us go hollow in a cell. Not much to explain here.
Two: If Dough's theory that Tarkus and Oscar were a team in anor londo was right, Oscar may have hoped that we would make it to Sen's fortess to make Tarkus the chosen undead and not us. Likely but I can't tie the pieces on Tarkus' death and when he could be summoned by us.
Three, this is the weird one which combines our progress and the Onion knight: What if Oscar and Tarkus are from the same time? They meet each other at one point, maybe at Sen's fortess when Oscar rang thier time's bells and use their strength to counter their weaknesses with Oscar being the chosen undead. Placing the painting world at the end for Oscar, they enter the painting looking for an edge over Gwyn but can't. Then Oscar, perhaps the smarter one took the doll for Tarkus' safety went to the aslyum to add us too. Then tie in our beginings. This could be Oscar's real goal at the aslyum since Tarkus' strength, Oscar's ability to survive and what we could do would make the perfect team to kill Gwyn. It's a long shot but reasonable.
Man I have to type faster.
I was unaware of that Dough sorry.

Re: Did Oscar journey to the DLC
Does it really matter if Oscar is dying or why he's dying? he's undead he'll just come back (actually he's the only undead that come back if killed before hollowing) the problem is he knows he's about to hollow and so he needs to find a successor. Even if he made it to Gwyn he'd still go hollow just like Gwyn and therefore he may as well not replace him and find someone who isn't hollowing just yet.
I would have really liked if they kept his orignal storyline, but alas it couldn't be helped

We have to remember not everyone who wears the Elite Knight set is Oscar.

Ricard certainly isn't, but the Elite Knight set you find is Oscars and maybe astoras straight sword.
