What are some things that helped you and may continue to help you through Dark Souls? Can be anything, a friend, a song, maybe even an npc.

What, no poll?
Hmmm, I guess it would be the community. Don't get me wrong, I love the game! But I don't think I would play Dark Souls as much as I do - or for as long as I have - if it weren't for the people I play with.

I had no assistance, since I played offline first time around, but later, I got loads of help from people who were at the same stage as me. One of the few things that keeps me playing now is meeting all of these wonderful people on these forums, that I can co-operatively play with, help out, socialise with, and generally make friends with them. This has happened twice recently. I have also recently made friends with random people I invaded, who turned out not to mind my invasion, and we end up helping each other out. I love the community of this game.

My ego kept me through my first playthrough. I wasn't going to allow myself to quit. My love that I gained for the game then kept me through my next few playthroughs.
What really keeps me in the game is the PvP and community. The PvP is the most fun I've had in a video game and the community is by far my favorite.

The community is such an endless battle between good and evil dont you think? I mean, how easy would it be to just drop all morals and slap on stacks of WOTG and spam to high heaven???

My will to get to the end of the game, and then do it all over again. My love to destroy hosts. My addiction to humanity. My curiosity to learn about the story and the lore. My hatred for gankers that kept me in the forest for hours. Decorating inactive players worlds with prism stones and broken swords. After all that I can still look forward to the cookies.

For my first play through, I basically had the generic noob build. but worse...
I used the Drake Sword till Anor Londo, and then switched to a Zweihander with and Eagle Shield and full Havel. The worst part was that I used the Strong Magic Shield glitch for my first play through...
For now though, it's definitely the Gargoyle's Halberd or the Dark Sword.

Man I almost forgot about that thing lol. "The FUTUREPRESSES hardback paperweight of knowledge". I kid, it was really helpful when it first came out. Mine's now full of red sharpie marks. It's nice to have one I suppose. Especially before mugenmonkey finished that character builder.
***EDIT***
Oh, and happy B-Day dude!
