Favorite Dark Souls locale
Where do you like to go to just, er...soak up the atmosphere? I enjoy Ash Lake...with the hydra alive. It is just so hauntingly beautiful.

Re: Favorite Dark Souls locale
New Londo for sures. Something about the place just seems so...murdery. A flooded ruins that was flooded because a lot of murdering happened. Then you go there to avoid being murdered by the ghosts of the murdered to drain it. Upon hitting the lower levels of the city, you fight the murderknights who want to murder you. Then you get to the boss! oh but first you need to go to the murder forest and murder a dog. Then you actually murder the boss. Four guys who were trying to murder everyone in the first place, if you dont murder them fast enough, you have to prevent being murdered by all four of them at once! And as a special bonus, upon murdering them, the murdersnake comes out of the murderpit and asks if you want to murder people for him.
In short, theres a lot of murdering surrounding New Londo. Such a nice place for a gravelord to hang out don't you agree?

Ash Lake
Like someone mentioned before, it's very Lovecraftian, and I love my Lovecraft
I could stare off into the horizon there forever

Re: Favorite Dark Souls locale
i like the PW,Ash Lake, and Dark Anor. PW because there is just a feel of peace and calm and i like going to the top of the broken tower just to look around and enjoy the scenery, Ash Lake because its just so scerene i feel like we step back in time to the age of dragons and it gets me wondering what lies below the waves and are in the trees, and Dark Anor because it shows just how much of an insolent fool Gwyndolin is and his inability to allow change without force and the resemblence it has to New Londo.

I find it strange that New Londo, Painted World, and the Catacombs were my most hated areas when I first played the game. They are now my three favorite areas to just hang around in.

I really like the top of Sen's Fortress, I had a lot of trouble getting there and I just felt so accomplished when I finally managed to reach it.
Anor Londo is also pretty awesome.

Re: Favorite Dark Souls locale
The top of Sens like Dusk said. I could just imagine the wind calmly blowing towards my character. Softly striking his cheeks and blowing his hair as he looks towards the sun.
I also like Anor Londo, although it may simply be an illusion. All for the same reason as Sens, although i think i prefer Sens on that part. I also like it because of the sun. Imagine leaning towards a wall as you feel the sun shining on you, warming your body.
Last but not least, the Kiln. There are many reasons for me liking this area, although i can only explain one of them, because i only know one of them. It reminds me of myself somehow. I can't explain why though.

The small lake beside the waterfall at the bottom of the Dark Root Garden where you fight a hydra. It exudes a somber, yet beautiful atmosphere. If you look at it long enough, it makes you want to think that maybe Viviane (the lady of the lake in "Excalibur" - a cinematic retelling of the Arthurian Legend) will appear with Excalibur in hand hahahaha! This is one of the reasons why I love Dark Souls so much. During my first run through of the game, I'd always go to this place whenever I couldn't advance through a certain area. It helps calm the mind. No doubt that it's my favorite spot in Lordran. My thanks to the OP for the opportunity to share this.

I really like the beginning of the new londo ruins. Something about seeing it from a distance with all the blue flames and the crack of light coming from above puts me at peace.

Everyone wave to big brother! He's surely paying closer attention to us now.
Hey, wait... are there BP ghosts? :affraid:
...
For me it's the top of Sen's fortress and Anor Londo. I just love castles and fighting knights. I wish there were more humanoid knights in dark souls. I miss all the different knights from Boletaria. I never would have thought of the forest, but the skyline is awesome with that full moon. The other day I was looking around with the binoculars in between smiting forest hunters. Unfortunately, it has the biggest collection of annoying enemies in the game.
I also love Demon ruins, too bad it's basically boss/boss/boss... with a few items and optional enemies off to the side. The scenery and music in Ash Lake are awesome, but there really isn't much to do there. It feels like a great spot for the endgame, but there isn't even a boss. Speaking of endgame the kiln's pretty cool, too. In fact, I wish there was more to it.

The Catacombs. First time going in there is TERRIFYING - it's very visually creepy, and in my case I went in early to explore. Had the sense that I really should not have been there.

Freaking Catacombs, they are hell if you are stupid like me and upgraded a Silver Knight Sword (I got confuses and thought it was the sword the one that was holy) and go your way murdering everything and BAM you are at a Dead end with tons of skeletons and no estus left...
But I guess that is exactly the point of them.

Undead Parish. I wish the entire game was an extension of that area.
I want a full Souls game that takes place entirely in overgrown castle ruins, with no ambiance save the occasional crows and the wind.
