Hello all, some test results for you again...

These are done on the INT themed weapons as a side arm to a mainly casting mage, and so are done at high INT and minimal STR/DEX. Im aware that the trident / catch pole / velkas would be better with high STR/DEX but in that case you may as well go +15 weapon and CMW

So this is just tests on the INT themed weapons as a side arm...

All tested on the spear hollow at the sunlight alter - NG7

    50 INT / 16 STR / 16 DEX

    Attack / 2 handed attack / backstab / 2 handed backstab / riposte / 2 handed riposte / weight / STR/DEX needed

    Channellers trident.....197..266..545..551..749..755..6..16/16

    Moonlight horn.............210..274..517..517..686..686 ..4..12/0

    Catch pole....................266..398..707..728..953..976..6..16/14

    Moonlight sword.........366..423..807..807..957..957..6..16/10

    Velkas rapier..............177..239..748..751..1024..1027 ..2..8/16

    Chaos rapier..............129..187..804..804..1072..1072..1.5..7/12

So for a quick summary ill compare then in 2s...

Trident vs horn. I would always use horn for a side arm to a mage. Trident is 2pts heavier than the horn and for me starting as a pyro base class, it needs 11 extra lvls to meet the STR/DEX requirements. The horn is also longer and in my opinion has better power attacks...

Catch pole vs moonlight sword. (I know they are TOTALLY different) I would always go sword, it is more damage in general, same weight but 4 less dex requirement and has better power attacks. Now I know there will be SOMEONE reading this all "Meh the catch pole power attacks are totally viable" and whilst I agree, that silly jump is no way near as practical as the lazer beams from the sword.

Velkas vs Chaos rapier. I added in the chaos just to see if it would stand up to INT weapons as a side arm. Velkas has slightly more regular damage and chaos has lightly more critical damage, other than moveset preference there isnt alot to say there.

Velkas vs moonlight horn. velkas weighs half of what the horn weighs and attacks quicker with ALOT higher critical damage. On the flip side it requires more dex (I usually start as a pryo so thats 7 pts for me) and doesnt have the range.

I hope this has helped, please feel free to add your thoughts =)

    P.S.

This test was mainly to show that trident DOESNT do more than horn at base stats. Despite its higher AR on the character planner its almost identical damage when put into practice.

(Thats aimed at everyone who's EVER disputed that one with me! :x )

Interesting that the MLGS does more damage on a BS than a Chaos Rapier, but less damage on a riposte. I assume you have 10 humanity?

I heard that Crits ignore resistances and in that case a Crit with a pure Magic damage weapon should do more damage than a Crit with pure physical, or split damage weapon, no?

That wouldn't explain the riposte...perhaps it's been toned down by From?

I've been told that. It is just interesting that the riposte apparently scaled differently between a BS and riposte.

Yeh I had 99, but I know what you mean. Looking at the damage it seems that the split damage weapons did more on the riposte and less on the BS than the others

Yea Reim Bs does less damage than a riposte i have always know that cuz of the following thinking:

This is me when i firts play DKS

So a Bs is not that hard to get and a parry is a lot harder and it needs skill so it must do more damge than a Bs

But it wierd cuz i though that the bandit knife was the best is we are talkind about Bs but looks. Like it has change can anyone tell me why?

    Thats's for you Reim

    And Rosie good job happy

That's a slap in the face to someone putting together testing results for the benefit of the community. Even if people use simulation programs on other stuff, the pursuit of knowledge only advances the game and moves the discussion of the intricacies of this game's mechanics forward. There are lots of people out there putting time in to discover answers to the questions everyone asks but are often too lazy to search for or test on their own. I'd expect a little better approach to discourse.

    I don't disagree with this .

I was just asking what i did since in the last thread Red Rosie Sugar did use a simulator and the information she provided was false .

I admit it was kinda plumb but i still stand like that .
