Aside from dragons and magic. Does anyone else feel that several real life philosophies are within dark souls? I deep people do not get along for the same reason as the real world, and just like in real life as long as you never give up you will triumph etc. lol am I wierd?

Re: Dark Souls Is Life
No weirder than the rest of us.
But Dark Souls has a depth to it than can only be paralleled by real life. Stories within stories, challenges within challenges, moral choices that can't be called bad or good as the truth isn't clear...etc etc etc
Dark Souls, while unrealistic, has a eerie sense of realism.

Of course. It's deeply philosophical.

Re: Dark Souls Is Life
Life is a great tragedy for those who feel,
and a great comedy for those who think.
I think of this (paraphrased quote) when I think about the players who stick with DKS and those who rage quit. The "thinkers" laugh and marvel at the genius of the game and how it challenges them, the "unthinking" primates get mad.

Re: Dark Souls Is Life
I think that's a bit of a ridiculous claim saying that people that don't enjoy dark souls are unthinking primates. Maybe they have limited time, maybe they have a stressful day and want something easy and thoughtless to wind down. Maybe they have a lot on their minds.
The only friend I recommended this to that enjoyed it is a stay at home dad. All others passed on it as they really don't have the time, and just want to pick up a game, jump in, and put it down. That's why they enjoy FPSs; they don't have to relearn a game, just relearn some maps and guns.
Elitist video game players. Oxymoron right there.

Re: Dark Souls Is Life
i dont know about DkS relating to life, but i do know its pretty much the only game a play any more and my mood in RL is directly related to how my day in DkS has been going.

Everyone's had a rage moment at Darksouls though. I stopped playing for the day once after several severely bad beatings at the hands(feet?) of the Dragon Legs in New Izalith, but I picked it up again later and got through it all in the end.

Re: Dark Souls Is Life
I would just like to say that this is an excellent post, and yes in several different ways dark souls is like real life. In a game like souls your true colors really shine, who you are as a person. Will you strive to help others even when all seems hopeless? Or sbumit to the ever fleeting darkness and become evil? It all depends on the player

Woah woah woah woah.......not sure bud.
I agree your behavior in a multi-player game can sometimes reflect what kind of mood you're in, but how you play Dark Souls in no way reflects what kind of person you are in real life.
That is a dangerous statement and has been the crux of the anti-violent censorship movement trying to link real life murder and crime to the activity of playing a game.
I'm not saying that sometimes a griefer/ganker isn't sometimes a dink in real life. Sometimes they are. However, the media has already made suggestions that the Newtown incident could have been influenced by the murderer playing World of Warcraft.
I know you didn't mean to say what you said in the context you said it, I just thought this should be cleared up immediately before it gets out of hand.
