I love the way though that they got punished for the fake stealing rather than the actually bad part about the crime which was extortion and threatening someone with a lethal weapon...

That entire case just baffles me :|

I'd say more than liekly because they were so young they couldn't stick the attack to him legally so got him for theft. Little **** deserved it and more.

The ruling isn't what interested me. It was the fact they beat and threatened him with a knife in real life just for a few virtual items in a game. That's taking a game way too seriously.

Yeah, it's only the Supreme Court ruling that came this year.

I just looked up the specifically cited legal articles and I'm flabbergasted. If the act was committed alone they could've convicted the perp with up to 9 years of incarceration, because it was committed by 2 or more people they could've been convicted with 12 years. I'm repeatedly disappointed with how lax the law is towards minors :S

I don't think it's that they take the game too seriously, I think it's a case of bullies taking powerplay way too far. People like them regularly bully for anything because they can, not because they really want something.

Why do people take games so seriously? I wouldn't sell myself for just a virtual item or flying mount.

I actually played that game at one point, I'm not actually that surprised that someone did this either. A lot of people at higher levels take that game a little bit too seriously, not everyone, but they can be a bit obsessive.

Dangerous game never went near it but a mate of mine dissapeared for 2 years because of it and put on about 8 stone, he did meet his fiance on it though, I kid you not and no she does not have an epic mount.

That doesn't surprise me, I know couples who have met online and married.

I don't think WoW in and of itself is dangerous, or MMO's, but the mindset of the people who get addicted. I used to play MMO's but I got bored of them, now I have no reason to play any, let alone pay a monthly subscription.
