    Bioshock Infinite Empty Bioshock Infinite

Post by Dubscythe Wed Mar 27, 2013 1:13 am

Someone in another thread asked me to tell them about Bioshock Infinite when I got it, I don't remember the thread or the name so I'll just make this one.

Bioshock Infinite is great, it's the first time in a LONG time that I've felt a First Person Shooter was actually great. The gunplay is tight and fun, the powers known in this game as vigors (which are essentially plasmids) are neat, and the atmosphere and scenery are amazing to look at. Storywise, prepare yourself for a ton of religious overtones with a bit of white guilt sprinkled in. I'd say my only complaint so far is that the game throws too much ammo, healthkits and money at you to be challenging, but I'm only playing Normal for now so I expect this to be changed on higher difficulties.

So yeah, whoever you were, go buy it n' stuff.

    Just played 6 hours straight.
I thought they were trying to make the game harder by not letting you carry health and eve(now called salt) then they give you a recharging shield, derp. Then they give you a buddy that throws you salt or health anytime you get low in a fight, double derp.

It's still lots of fun, and the Changes to the powers is real good.

Like I said, I'm hoping that's toned down a bit on the higher difficulties.

It's a step up from 2 then? The last time I remember really feeling like a first person game was great was probably the original Bioshock. Such an engaging atmospheric experience. I lost interest in the second one really quickly though. Felt like the entire game was just reusing everything they did from the first one. I ended up playing for about 5-6 hours, then letting it sit for a few months, then starting over and playing for another 6-7 hours, then letting it sit for a few months, then selling it without finishing it. That experience kinda has me on the fence regarding Infinite

A part of me feels like this game has terrible writers when it comes to the characters. The people in it seem so racist they come off as unbelievable cartoon villains...

Then I remember people were actually that racist and in such absurd manners too. Oh society...

Yep, that's old America for you. Even the great emancipator Abraham Lincoln would sound like a racist these days, it's just that old way of thinking.

I actually don't like her design because of her eyes. Everyone else is fairly realistic, while she has those big Disney eyes, almost to the point of anime eyes. It looks really freaky to me every time I see her face and makes her seem like a creature instead of a human.

Well I just learned about the two weapon limits, similar to Duke Nukem Forever. That's pretty much turned me off of the game.

Why? I think that two weapons + grenades are more than enough to tackle anything the game and online can throw at you.

The two weapon limit is a downgrade from previous Bioshock games, but once I started playing I didn't really notice nor care as much. But I suppose if something that small would have turned you off of the game you probably wouldn't have enjoyed it anyway.

I usually carry something relatively strong and accurate. I'm always looking for a pistol. I guess old Halo habits die hard and replenish shields with incredible speed. big grin

Aim for head, throw grenades and don't be shy to melee.
Haven't met a FPS that can't be finished with this on whatever difficulty.

So f*ck two weapons, give me only one and decent melee and I'm set. Joy

It's bad to overdo it though. For example, I finished the first Bioshock only with melee. I rarely shot my weapons, because I would just smack everything in face.
Bioshock 2 had the annoying fuel for the drill, if that wasn't there it would be drill fest for the whole game.

I wasn't aware of that. Definitely nice to hear. Here I thought I was the only one who disliked the second one. Well to be fair I didn't dislike it, I was just disappointed enough by it that it hurt my interest in it.

The gameplay is similar to what you played in Bioshock 1. You have your weapons in your right hand and in your left hand you have vigors, which are essentially plasmids. As has been pointed out in this thread, yes you can only carry two weapons at one time instead of all of them. When you get a bit into the game however, each battle will give you plenty of opportunities to use several different weapons, and there's even a story related ability that allows you to spawn weapons/cover/areas to jump to out of thin air.

Also, flying through the air on the hooklines during a battle is extremely fun.

Well, the two weapon limit did set me off when I heard about it, but if the writers are the same as those of Bioshock 1, instead of 2 (which was good compared to most games, but mediocre compared to 1), then it might be worth buying when the summer sale rolls around.

That being said, are there political philosophy references in Infinite? I know that Bioshock 1 had them, although it primarily relied with showing the good and bad of different systems, which I enjoyed.
