The Souls games are notorious for introducing a first boss that overpowers the player, but can be beaten or avoided in some way. What do you think will be the boss in DkSII? Personally, I was looking at the trailer and thought that it would be cool if you were placed in a battlefield with the masked guys (everyone seems to have forgotten about them) and you fought them until you died. It would sort of be like a survival game, but in the end you would die. What do you guys think?

It would be cool if you went to light the first bonfire you saw and then have it explode like a bomb on you killing you, because you lack an item/rite needed to make bonfire activation possible.

According to the director's comment on accessibility, i expect a God of War styled tutorial level, where you fight with high level equipment to learn the moves more easily, then something bad happens to you and you find yourself naked and without power, then eventually fight the first real Dark Souls-hard boss to remind you what kind of **** you just got yourself into

it will probably be a boss like the last two games, I really wanna fight a badass knight(same size as you, kinda like the berenike knights) for the tutorial.

It will most likely be some fat *** monster with a Giant Hammer/Axe that can one shot us, just like in the last two games.

I wonder how it would go if we had something like patches who betrays us a bit into the beginning. Only it will be more in depth and we don't know where, or when he betrays us so we are careful of what he says. It would be also interesting where, depending on how we react to him can either fight him or something completely unexpected and amazing as the first boss.

I'd assume Patches will be in DkS2, but whether or not we find him that early on could be put to discussion.
On a side note, I passed you in post count, Soris.

I hope we fight the final boss first, with the ending being decided by if you win or not in the beginning

I don't think that would be in a game like Dark Souls.
Remember; Dark Souls is a game where you do not simply have an objective, you just have an idea of what you should be doing. Fighting the final boss would give you a common enemy, and I don't want that in a game like Dark Souls, where instead of taking in the games full extent, you are more worried about revenge on something.

I don't think it would turn into a goal per se. Until the end you'd have no idea who killed you in the beginning. If you beat the boss in the beginning, you'd find an empty room at the end, maybe an npc that reveals why there's no boss.

Beginning game stuff having end-game consequences doesn't seem like something From Soft will do. They are smart enough to know that the majority of people who die to the boss will probably be new players, while long time DkS and DeS players will probably have a cakewalk with it. This means that the game will be split into two groups of people, and it wouldn't be random where each group is put.

My only issue with that Skare is that when I see that it results in: This is the end of the game and then we have to go back in time to the start of the game and play the whole thing as a flashback up to the final boss.skarekrow13 wrote:I don't think it would turn into a goal per se. I don't think the current endings are much different in that regard. I think the current are either new players who light the bonfire first since hey, it's a bonfire and returning Demon's Souls players who know that walking away is an option. From is notorious for making a game of everything. In my opinion it would be a total mind trip to find out your final consequence was decided before you got started really. It's the kind of mental distress I enjoy in games and think it would fit well. Again, my opinion. Also, I've never beaten the asylum first try except on one character in which I deliberately took the black firebombs to do so. I think the players who would find that a cakewalk are statistically very rare
Soris, I wouldn't want that either but here's my idea: Unnamed boss at beginning. Vague story....better fleshed out than last time per the director. So maybe you learn a name of the boss or something. You get to the end and all you get is....."looking for___? I hear he never made it out of ____“ cue cackling and credits

Yes, I can see why that would add to the theme of Dark Souls, but it also adds to the revenge theme, as if you've already uncovered both(possibly more, we have yet to find out) endings, you will already know what you should be doing.
For me, each Dark Souls playthrough is a new adventure with new challenges. I know I should kill Gwyn, but I also know I can walk out should I want to change my mind at the final moment.
If it were made to be the very beginning of the game, you would have to make your choice right then in there, which kind of ruins the choices that souls games have always implemented thus far.

I agree that you shouldn't choose in the beginning. Or at least have no clue you are. Basically it plays out like both intros we already have just with major consequences. I guess after you've beaten the game it could be seen as choosing your ending but after you've beaten it the charm of choosing is lost (for me) anyway. I'll admit, my idea is not for everyone though. It is also a pretty dramatic twist

Well the tutorial boss isn't the typical players' first death. It's normally just an enemy, or boulder, or something of that sort. Though I believe the first boss will still follow the trend it had in the previous souls games.

Whatever it is, it has to be killable or avoidable. Not some cheap, guaranteed insta death.

I thought the idea of a survival sounded cool because I went back to watch the first trailer and noticed the "hero" kicking some mask a-- and then getting arrows shot at him (quite a few) and he dies, presumably.
Now picture this (you might want to rewatch the first trailer after this):
You start out walking in a huge ashy clearing where the bodies of those masked guys litter the ground. You pick up a weapon off one of the bodies (maybe this determines your class) and then the start attacking you. At first there are only a few with swords, but then more and more attack you and then archers come and hit you while the other guys are still attacking you. They would be like hollow soldiers, but eventually they would overwhelm you. Then the game starts.
This would also allow experienced players to last longer (maybe the longer you last the more souls you get or some other effect later in game
) but still be killed by the inevitable death.

It would clearly be a giant dad that would endlessly taunt you as you pathetically attempt to kill him

I'm hoping its gonna come right after a fog gate, really early on, one of the things I love about DS is on your first run you genuinely have no idea what you're about to face...a fog gate can lead to nothing or a Capra demon style instant splitting of your skull...I hope they set that stall out early to make every fog gate entrance a weary one, build that tension sky high!!

as long as is not a scripted death, DSII should do everything possible to not have a single scripted death in the game.
i don't know what the first death will be, but we will probably begin the game naked and locked in a cell … now if we started locked in a cell with patches and we had the option to punch him to death before beginning the game, that would be cool.

For the LOL's...
Terns out for the tutorial level, you get to play through a level with super good gear and a high level character. After smashing through mobs like its nothing the player enters the boos room for the tutorial boss.
Terns out to be black knight from the Kiln.
The Black Knight makes a sloppy, un-tracking, slow attack, player runs around behind him for the easy backstab as always....
The backstab animation starts but quick as a flash the black knight spins around and cuts the player in half.... "You Died".... fade to black.
Words come up on the screen "And thus fell your grand father/mother."
....Dark Souls 2 starts...

That is so cliché and overused.Hachouma wrote:According to the director's comment on accessibility, i expect a God of War styled tutorial level, where you fight with high level equipment to learn the moves more easily, then something bad happens to you and you find yourself naked and without power, then eventually fight the first real Dark Souls-hard boss to remind you what kind of **** you just got yourself into
From would insult itself if they were to do this.
Anyway, I expect to see some huge, giant weapon wielding boss, with urge to smash the player with his butt.
First death for me?
Ooooh, where does this hole lead?
Ooooh, what does this button do?
Ooooh, that thing wants to cuddle! Omnomnomnom....
Hey look, a treasure chest!
I bet I can block that!
Gravity you sob!
Those are my picks.
Nothing will beat Dragon Gods FALCON PAWNCH!
