I was watching Kaz's "The Boxer" which inspired me to try my own. One of the comments in his videos said he should of put dex as much as str. From what I've seen he only did Strength, and has succeeded quite well actually so far. My question is I guess does the str and dex requirement in a weapon stack up your damage output? I always though it was either/or but if it does This boxer will rock

Re: Do Ability requirements stack?
Due to the damage of the game, it will depend on scaling on how much damage it will do.
I've seen the series too, and for a Caestus, it's better to go with strength.
Although yes, the weapon scalings WILL stack, the Caestus has higher Strength scaling than Dexterity scaling, so it's better to go with Strength on that.
Here's an example:
A Sword that scales C with Strength and A with Dexterity would get say +100 damage from 30 Strength and +200 Damage from 30 Dexterity due to higher scaling. Thus, the combined total would be +300 damage, although higher Dexterity will benefit more from the higher scaling.
So Strength is your best choice if you're making a boxer.
I can go more in-depth if you'd like...

Re: Do Ability requirements stack?
Dibsville did a pretty good job at explaining it, but I'll reword it just in case you were confused.
Weapons have a scaling of E, D, C, B, A, and S. The higher the scaling, the more damage points you gain for that weapon everytime you increase the stat it scales with. E giving you 1 extra damage per point, and S giving you about 6-9 extra damage per point(or way more depending on the weapon)
If you have a weapon with C-scaling in both dex and strength, then the weapon will gain damage points when you add into both of those stats.
Edit: When you get to 40 points into strength or dex, then the damage gained per point decreases to 1 or 0.
Example: Dragon Bone Fist has S-scaling in strength and gains 4 or 5 damage points per every 1 stat point. From 40 to 41 though, it gains 1 damage point per every 2 or 3 levels.

Re: Do Ability requirements stack?
Thanks that helped a lot. Focus on the Str, with Dex as secondary and i know to keep almost any stat under 40ish since very little return on the leveling afterwards heh
My main will probably go as high as it can still have lots of dragon stone and reprisals to farm for the 2 covenants I need

Re: Do Ability requirements stack?
Actually, there are six stats that many people raise above 40 because the real diminishing returns start at 50 or so.
Those are:
Vitality; 50VIT rewards you with 1500HP, and an amazing 1800HP with the Ring of Favor and Protection, almost maxing out the health bar. (it stops going up at 1900, so past that it may not look like you're taking damage but in reality you're still losing health, you just can't see it)
Attunement; at 41 you get 9 slots and at 50 you get 10 slots.
Strength; mostly because many strength weapons have great strength scaling. A good example is the almighty Demon's Greathammer. It will constantly gain power due to its beautiful S scaling.
Dexterity; As your Dexterity increases your spell casting time will go down. At 45 Dexterity, your spell casting speed maxes out and you will cast spells significantly faster than normal, and it is very noticeable especially on spells such as Combustion and the Lightning Spears.
Intelligence; most mages will go up to 50 INT as the top three Catalysts have S scaling.
Faith; although the cut-off point is around 40 for this, the Darkmoon Talisman can still benefit as well as Occult and Divine weapons still retaining decent increases in damage.

You should still check the numbers. Even though weapons with S scaling raises consistently, it's still way less potent than before.
Logan's catalyst
25->30 int: +60 magic adjustment
30->40 int: +49 magic adjustment
40->50 int: +27 magic adjustment
50->60 int: +3 magic adjustment
Dragon Bone Smasher:
20->30 strength: +46 power
30->40 strength: +46 power
40->50 strength: +6 power
50->60 strength: +5 power
Longbow(wooden arrows):
20->30 dex: +47 power
30->40 dex: +47 power
40->50 dex: +6 power
50->60 dex: +5 power
See what I mean? I'm not saying you should never raise something to 50, but just that you'll get a considerably less amount of "bang for your buck".

On a sidenote, those aren't ability requirements, they are stat bonuses

Re: Do Ability requirements stack?
Enchanted Weapons = up to 50 int
same for occult/divine and magic. 50 int or faith.
Weapons that scale with faith or int naturally, like velka's rapier, only scale well up to 40.
Talismans and Catalysts hit diminishing returns at different value's differing by the item. The Sorcerers Catalyst hits it at 30, and the best talismans and catalysts hit it at 50.
Strength And Dex is always at 40.
Attunement hits diminishing returns at 16, and gets worse and worse up to 50, where further points do literally nothing.
Endurance stops giving stamina at 40.
RULE OF THUMB IS
All Stats stop scaling well or at all by 50, Strength and Dex do it at 40, as do some int and faith weapons.

Re: Do Ability requirements stack?
i believe that diminishing returns hit at different stat values depending on the scaling…E scaling will hit diminishing around 30 and practically halt at 40, while S will scale well until 50 and completely halt at 60. or something like that.

WRONG.
Cestus has equal scaling with str and dex. So either stat works. I have two +11 cesti, same scaling. Mugen agrees.
Cesti are best on a quality build. 40 str and 40 dex gets you the most out of the weapon.

I didn't know that, I haven't used a Caeustus since I had a griefer build, which was before the DLC even came out. :shock:
