So this is not directly about Dark Souls but I think this is the best place to post this.
This is my first topic, so of course I figured that posting something fairly useless is the way to go.
But on th theme of this post, I wanted to tell that only now I discovered that titanite is a real material, existent on the real world.
I always thought it was just a made-up name by FROM, an obvious reference to titanium, but the mighty and useful mineral used by the warriors of Lordran is real, minus the part of being mighty and useful. It is actually a crystal, formed as the name suggests by titanium ( CaTiSiO5),
is usually transparent or translucent and has a hardness scale of 5.5 (for comparison steel is 4.5)
And it indeed comes in several different colors, reddish brown, gray, yellow, green, or red. However unlike in-game it was never used for war, and wouldn't make a good upgrade material since I assume being a crystal it wouldn't merge with another metals. The only use I found for it is being the source of TiO2, used in pigments.
But to the pictures, if you have any curiosity:
Green titanite:
Yellow titanite:
Brown titanite:
Red titanite:
I hope this has been slightly interesting to some of you.
