I think I understand what has happened to the forest. Long shot mind you but it is possible. I took the time to note down the souls I got for invades and some looks at each profiles, I think the players who are forest invaders has changed to a pool of new to semi experienced players than the vets who look for challenge. Aside from few tonight a lot of these players just killed sif or have the lordvessel. It also makes sense that a forest hunter is good to farm items with and gain souls from hosts in the place. I have been asked for items three times today which I find interesting. Also tonight a invader with base stats calls people who have high sl builds with maxed upgraded gear the thing that ruins the place and to invade other places. Complete nonsense but it made me think hard that maybe the players who are forest hunters has changed. At least for the xbox side.
