I'm not playing anymore, but I used to quite a lot. I was maining Akuma.
To tell you how I played him is impossible for me, because I don;t know how to describe it properly. Never was a part of the community on any level.
I mostly try to melee with him, cos I hate Hadouken spammers and love to end the fight with with Shun Goku Satsu.
That's about it. ^^

My play style mixed up zoning with the different aerial Hadouken with melee.
Favorite strategy to troll people when I KO'd them was to wait til I could counter a normal with a focus attack, wait a second before jumping back and using an EN mid-punch Hadouken in mid-air, then using Wrath of the Raging Demon to finish it.
I also sub Ryu and Ibuki.

Gouken main here. I'm okay I guess. Best I ever got online was around the 2000 point mark (skill points, not character points). But that was back when it was more popular and more people were playing it. Any time I come back now I realize I'd probably be quite a bit lower on points because everyone else left is so much better than earlier

Ibuki is the only one I ever had patience to learn, but I'm still bad, yet had lots of fun playing with (I don't know how but even worse than me) friends. Never tried online

I have used Dan as my main ever since Alpha 3. No joke =P
I have no idea why, my guess is that im so bad at online PVP in Street Fighter that its more about having a crazy match that winning. He is the best at being the worst he has ever been in the SSF4 series.
...there are times when I try to play "for real" with Dan online and this is my play style:
1. Play really badly un-intentionally, loose first round.
2. Opponent gets completely confused.
3. Opponent gets over confidant, I throw out random ultra and win second round.
4. Opponent gets mortified at loosing to Dan.
5. Last round = pandemonium.

I once watched a match where Justin Wong used Dan in a money match, and the announcer put it perfectly. Paraphrasing, so it won't be an exact quote, but it was something like:
"The real strength of Dan is that nobody expects him to be good. As soon as you start losing to Dan, you panic, thinking 'am I really losing to Dan?!' And that's when you lose."

I saw that match a while back on youtube, that one was crazy x10!
If I remember correctly Justin was up against Air, a super serious Ryu player.
Justin even did the fireball into taunt into ultra combo (something I just do not have the coordination for) for the round win!
Then Air starts to come back in the later rounds and Justin panic switches to Akuma... and Justin is promptly beat down...
Why Justin! Why!
