Phantom enemies in the Painted world

SO i've now been in the painted world twice and both times I have been there I have encountered red outlined black enemies tat look exaclty the same as the mutated hollows (apart from colour) amd the corpses dissappear when they die. There are always a lot at the beginning but after ive been in the world a few times they all disappear. However I was not human when they apeared nor am I connected to the playstation network (dont have internet to my ps3), so I have no idea what these things are. Has anyone else seen them under the same circumstances?

I think that once you have been infected, you can stay infected, even while playing offline.

That is correct, the only way you are going to be able to get rid of them is if another gravelord sets up shop and you invade him. Or someone else invades him. Once you get the "disasters are gone after the defeat of the gravelord servant" they will be gone.

You can be cursed while in hollow form and even if the area boss has been defeated.

I've never been online. I mean never. Always played it offline.

Also they disappear naturally after a certain time spent in the world.

Much agreed. We love to enhance your gameplay by making it damn near impossible to kill relatively weak enemies.

Before i had online, i've noticed the same thing. It generally happens with the skeletons. I think FROM decided to add in an example of being gravelorded for those who do not have online.

That is very possible and quite nice on their part hehe. But how to get rid of them unless you play online???

I believe From has stated that anything that can happen online to your game is built into the offline game as well. That's why they have NPC co-op and invasions.

For me, whenever i killed them they did not respawn the next time i went through that area.

I've noticed they do respawn 2 or 3 times before finally disappearing.
