Quick Question about Rep. and Souls (Points)

First off, how are Souls gained in a sense? Not that I'm going to try to boost my Souls or anything, I just want to know how they're obtained and if they do anything.

Secondly, is there any way to view which posts have positive and negative rep.? It's always nice to see which things were viewed well and badly when my rep. shifts so I can respond more easily.

Souls are gained by, IIRC, creating a thread or posting in a thread anywhere but in the off-topic section, having a post of yours quoted by someone else, and naturally gaining 1 a day since you registered with the forums. They currently serve no really functional purpose and are only really useful as a loose gauge to see how much someone posts in off-topic (someone like me who's posts are higher than souls posts in off-topic alot, where someone like you who's souls are higher than posts doesn't).

And no, there is no way to go back and specifically check which posts were up or downvoted. I can't remember the reasoning behind this being the case, but it's how it is.

Accrual of Souls:

1 Soul gained per message posted (Off Topic does not count)
3 Souls gained per thread created (Off Topic does not count)
1 Soul gained per friend added
1 Soul gained per day since registration
