I don't listen to music on my console (only on very rare instances) so this doesn't affect me in the least.
But, that aside, of course you shouldn't pledge your allegiance to any company. This news should not have been what led you to that realization. In general, distrust is healthy when dealing with any company.

Companies want your money so what Pendant said. Brand loyalty is fine but that doesn't mean blind faith. This also doesn't affect me directly but I was not happy with the news either. I still think the PS4 is worth my investment though
My primary concern is that the language about how many games will have remote play has from "almost all" to "most." As a legal nerd it mentally equates to percentages like "beyond a reasonable doubt" or "preponderance of the evidence" or in math from 95% to 51%

You might still be able to use YouTube but CDs are out for sure. They're bringing TuneIn to ps3 (yesterday actually) and vita (next week) and that might be a good option too

Huh, this kind of affects me as I've put a few albums that I downloaded through the internet onto my PS3 via USB drive. I just hope the youtube app will still be available when I finally get my hands on a PS4.

I see no reason whatsoever to not switch over to PC anymore, sure it's a bit more expensive but at least you won't have to deal with sh!t like this .
Consoles stopped being Consoles and are now PC wanabes what with installing games and DLCs and whatnot .
Thank god Dark Souls 2 is my last game (totally)

Yeah, this doesn't affect me at all either. That's what my stereo, laptop, and mp3 player are for. My PS3 just plays games and netflix.

I don't play music or videos on my PS3. So, doesn't really matter to me either. About the only "non-console" activity I do is Netflix. Well, I use the PS3's YouTube and have it paired with my computer. It allows my to control YT with my computer, but the videos show up on my TV and surround sound.

You know with a lot of gamers saying that a console is just for gaming, I wonder how they would feel if all phone companies pulled their social and media features and said, a phone is just for phoning people.

While that sucks if it's true, there is something you can do. Keep your PS3 setup.

Is there a benefit to doing it that way, as opposed to just using an HD out to your television? Because that's generally what I do.reim0027 wrote:I don't play music or videos on my PS3. If i can give some advise, never pledge yourself to anything. Whatever/whoever it is, eventually it will betray you. There is no need to ever put so much trust in anything, not even yourself really.

PS3 = *buy game from any region* *Insert game* (*install*) *play*
PC = *find out if they allow me to buy this game from my region* *insert game* *go through registration with publisher* *activate unnecessary security* *install* *boot* *configure settings* *try to play* *find issues* *check card drivers* *fiddle with settings* *still lagging* *check internet connection (60Mbup)* *check card again* ....
I love my PC - but the sit back and play is not to be forgotten and the reason consoles stick around.

I'd be pretty mad about this too if I didn't play songs through my PC. It's just a step backwards from what consoles already do. Not like it's hard to play MP3s when pretty much anything can these days. Next gen is looking great huh?

I'm extremely slow to trust and even to my ears that sounds like a hollow life. One cannot avoid all pain, and even should one manage to do so then happiness loses all meaning because there is nothing to contrast it with. The result is a dull grey haze of depression and apathy. Speaking from experience.Tolvo wrote:If i can give some advise, never pledge yourself to anything. Whatever/whoever it is, eventually it will betray you. Anyways, I intended to buy second gen system anyways, give them time to work out the kinks.

That's just the thing though; consoles have to compete with devices like that, and it's not a favorable market for them since they're not exactly mobile and in the case of music, offer little if any quality advantage over alternative sources of audio. You're seeing a small sample size of that reality in this thread (I don't use consoles for music either).steveswede wrote:You know with a lot of gamers saying that a console is just for gaming, I wonder how they would feel if all phone companies pulled their social and media features and said, a phone is just for phoning people.
Consoles have basically been computers for a while now. However, they have the advantage of being optimized around gaming, and games designed specifically optimized for them. It would take significant work to put together a computer at the same price point as a console and get similar quality, and in some cases it isn't doable depending on the game.
Case in point:
Xbox 360:
http://hardware.teamxbox.com/articles/xbox/1144/The-Xbox-360-System-Specifications/p1/
Ps3:
http://playstation.about.com/od/ps3/a/PS3SpecsDetails_3.htm
These are excessively paltry by today's standards (probably why we're getting new consoles). However, it's worth noting that through most of 2013, where people have more GPU RAM than xbox 360 GPU + DDR3 combined, these consoles were still massively popular and ran some solid games at high speeds.
How would dark souls run on a PC with similar specs to that? Poorly I'd imagine, at least more so than the consoles. The console specs constitute the PC "minimum", and I'm sure most of you know how well PC games run on "minimum" specifications.

Not surprised really, sony music killed the mp3 player for sony back in the day. They were releasing 1 around the same time as the ipod and sony music objected and held release back until restrictions had been added and you know how that turned out. I was very surprised when i could chuck mp3's on the ps3 when it was out. It's sony music just being **** again. M$ would be pulling the same if they were in the music business.

I'm looking into buying a gaming PC now. To run typical games at similar performance levels to the current consoles is 600+ dollars, and thats buying the parts individualy (no warrenty.) A PS3 is 200-400, depending on the in package hdd. The difference being in how specialised and optimised console/games are by comparison.
One can upgrade computers as the years go buy (instead of buying a new console) but often any significant upgrade in 1 area (eg graphics card) requires several other upgrades to function (eg motherboard, ram, powersupply, cooling) meaning system wise, a PC is just as or more expensive and significantly higher maintenance.
If you're willing to put up with all that, go right ahead and skip the PS4. You do get all kinds of customization options in nearly every aspect of it.
In fact, it would likely be better for the industry if consoles stopped competing with TV's, phones, ipods, ect (which can do everything a console can except run decent games) and just ran as highly specialised game machines. It would save them (and us) money in performance parts and software, as well as ensuring that consoles are better than the other things I've mentioned at the one thing that matters. If they continue trying to be "media centers" then they'll be dead in 10 years, replaced by (now) higher end TV's and phones.

Increasing the cost further. A smallish hd moniter is like 300. A gaming keyboard or gamepad is another 50.+
Seriously, that crap has a higher entry cost than snowboarding.

That is the biggest issue with PCs, i know its cheaper long term but you cant get one without taking a hit financially, my wallet hurts man, unemployment's a b****.
