    Piercing swords Empty Piercing swords

    Post by JY4answer Tue Mar 27, 2012 4:10 am

I noticed that the wiki pages on the piercing swords all have a sentence saying that the back-stepping r1 partially penetrates shields. I'm 99% sure that's not true, so I changed it.

For the sake of that 1%, I'm bringing it up here. Someone give me a huge wack on the head and I'll change it back.

I haven't tested this extensively, but afaik it does some damage through a shield, at least for pve. I have been meaning to test this more thoroughly when I have some spare time. I'm also looking into the silver knight spear, since some spear knights are able to bypass my shield with one of their heavy attacks, could just be a dead angle issue.

That's what I was thinking for both cases. I've tried using the back-step slash on hollow soldiers, and I don't recall getting anything through. But if anyone comes and tells me that they're sure of it I'm more than happy to change it back.

When I get home I'll check and add my voice. The hollow spears in the Burg are the easiest to test it on since they never lower their ***damned shields.

The sword knights do that too. That stalking attack they do with their shield raised horizontal and their weapon underneath it? Too bad it isn't an attack option for the player.

    Okay, finally found the thread.

My Occult Rapier's "kick" attack does damage around the hollow soldier's shield, but not too much. If I bounce an R1 off his shield it does 16 dmg, bounce an R2 off his shield does 24 dmg, and when I use the kick attack it does 66 damage. For persective my regular R1 attack, point-blank with his shield down, does 192 dmg. Actually, I guess 66 dmg is respectable.

Occult is magic damage which goes through any shield to an extent. Try with a pure physical weapon to be completely sure.

    My regular +15 Rapier's R1 does 11 damage when they're blocking and 328 when they're not. It's kick move does 46 damage.

For an un-upgraded Rapier the regular R1 does 1hp damage when they're blocking, 28 when they're not, and the kick move does 5hp damage. So it does apparently get around shields a bit. I'll try it off and on and see if it works better against certain enemies.

Do the kick move a couple of times, with and without them blocking it, and you should be able to tell roughly how many percent of the attack gets through. Looks like the shield in your test lets about 3% damage through on a regular R1, which would give it around 97% damage reduction.

If I were home I would have done these tests 2 weeks ago. Sorry for changing and bringing stuff up without testing it.

Tried it on Petrus and nothing; 0% got through his Knight Shield. So I KILLED HIM.

That's commonly known as RUS, he was talking about summoning a player with the Read Sign Soapstone.
