So recently I just started a new PVP character and killed Petrus a little to early than I should have. That doesn't matter but when I was fighting the bodyguards today I was in a bit of a critical thinking mood and decided on looking a bit further into their dialogue. This also brings in some speculation on the Way of White as well. So let's get started.
This is all just speculation of course, but I find the need to give everything I see a back story now.
- The Talking Bodyguard:
- Some of the first dialogue that we would get out of this trio is the guard that tells us not to talk to Reah or more specifically 'his lady' in our current condition. It's later that if we choose to attack these three that once we kill this same bodyguard he still calls Reah his lady. This is a bit peculiar to me seeing as when he calls Reah this he seems both possessive of her and defensive of her.
This strikes me as odd. Why would a bodyguard act around the person he needs to guard like this? Yes, he needs to defend her of course but why would a bodyguard be treat her like his own personal possession?
My guess is that Reah's hollowing might not be the only reason she's here. I think that this bodyguard may in fact, also be Reah's lover. It's simply the fact of the way he talks about her that gives me the idea that these two may have had a romantic history together.
- The Way of White:
- Now here is another theory that directly contradicts what I just said. This theory is somewhat of a simple one too. The reason this bodyguard calls Reah 'his lady' is because it what bodyguards of the Way of White Church do.
The reason they do this is because they may hold women of the church in a certain honor than other priests. While for Lore reasons for this aren't prevalent I do have one idea. This idea is simply the fact that in a world filled with the undead a woman is held in a certain light because of the fact that they can bring life into the world. It's because of this ability they are treated with more care than the males of church.
- The Silent Bodyguard:
- This speculation is a bit leads to a bit more of the darker side of the Way of White. Throughout the whole entire time we encounter this bodyguard he never talks but only hums.
Now I think there are two reasons for this, he simply is unable to talk or he was a preacher that had his tongue cut out for blasphemy.
Now if it is the former than it is likely that he is some sort of mute, but why not heal this condition? They have miracles that are used to heal backstabs and getting hit by a dragon tooth but they don't have one to heal someone that is a mute?
The other theory is that the Way of White does not tolerate blasphemy of any sort and it is probably condemned by death. The only reason why this bodyguard may be here is because he volunteered to help in the journey to Lordran and to recover the Rite of Kindling. The church realizing this was a death sentence itself sent him off, but he was still punished for speaking out against them.
This is all just speculation of course, but I find the need to give everything I see a back story now.
