Dark souls Combat. Empty Dark souls Combat.

Post by Johannsny Wed Mar 28, 2012 7:46 am

    This: http://www.forbes.com/sites/erikkain/2012/03/27/the-smart-combat-of-dark-souls-and-some-wishful-thinking/

Is why I can't find another game I like. After DS, all the others just feel like button mashing . And their boss fights suck.
( God of war and Darksiders) specifically. I try for a while, and then I put the DS disc back in the PS3. No contest.

I hope there is another DS like game coming, or the PS3 will gather dust.

Same here, the only thing I play is Dark Souls and NHL12 (sports games aren't affected by my DS addiction at least). Can't even play shooters and adventure games anymore. Gears of Wars and Assassins Creed Brotherhood have been sitting on my shelve unopened for a while now...Actully Gears of Wars 3 is just not good...

Johnny, buy demon's souls. You wont be disappointed by that silly (maybe a little by the boss fights, they're a bit easier I feel)

But the world tendency spawned baddies can be a real pain compared to Dark Souls, particularly the NPC "invasions." I don't think I ever beat the Talisman of Beasts guy in a duel.

I do agree that other games pale in comparison to the depth of Dark Souls. But, sometimes I need something that's just empty and fun. Vanquish comes to mind.

The Talisman of Beasts guy, as well as some of the other Red Phantom NPCs triggered by Black World Tendency needed to be cheesed by errors for the most part. The Talisman of Beasts guy had to be knocked off the ledge.

I am thinking of buying a PS3 just so I can give a crack at Deamon Souls...Maybe the annoucement is that they are bringing it to Xbox 360? =D ....yea right, I'll jsut buy a PS3, the Uncharted series might be playable...I've been playing games for too long, nothing seems to impress me anymore. That is also why Dark Souls is so special.

Skarerow13 - I live in Ottawa now, but I am from eastern Canada...I'm a Habs fan, nothing to cheer about this year, haha!

Lol....being from the Western part of New York I won't admit how long it was until I knew just what a "hab" was. Let's just say I took Spanish in high school.

Back on topic....I got the 360 at launch just because I knew Oblivion was a release for that (and Morrowind never made it to Playstation). If Dark Souls is seriously ruining your excitement for other games now is the time to get a PS3. They're not very expensive these days and that game is just as good. World tendency might literally drive you insane.

I am definitely going to get Demons Souls, as soon as I can find one, anyway.

What do you guys think of Amalur? is it worth a try? I see lots of things about the "combat system" that is so revolutionary, but is it comparable to DS?

    Hi Serious,
I am not too sure if Amazon will send games here, they seem to have restrictions on some things. I've seen copies in our local games shop every once in awhile, I'm sure I'll find one, last resort I will try Amazon.

    Thanks!

Pretty much. I recently started Demon's Souls and it's every bit as nasty as Dark was at first.

*edit* just to clarify I wasn't calling Much 'pretty.' Not that he's not, I don't know, I just wasn't saying that.

    Sexy Much.

Yeah, after tasting the combat of Dark Souls I just can't really pick up any other game for more than ten minutes without getting a yearning to pop back in Dark Souls. I tried to force myself to replay Skyrim lately and all I kept thinking was, "I should be levelling my Hulk Hogan toon.

I played Dark before Demon's, and I gotta say that Old King Allant was a bit of a pain.

But then there is the Old Hero, and that was just insanely easy.

Only negative I would say is that it just doesn't feel as polished as Dark, but I still have to get into the NPC quests and such

I didn't get drawn in as much as with Dark (only did 1 1/2 playthroughs and couldnt be bothered with more) But yeah it was a fun thing to explore my way through. I might end up going through it again in a little while though, it's not a game short on quality and enjoyment, that's for sure.

I was really looking forward to Amalur. The moves and weapons looked so very cool in the trailers I saw. I've played it for about an hour total, yet I got it the day it came out. That says a lot. After Dark Souls I don't seem to have the patience for excessive dialog and button-mashy type games. I played the 'normal' setting though. From now on when I start a new game I'm going to start in difficult mode, that may get the games closer to DkS.

I had Armored Core 4 and For Answer. In my opinion they're the ultimate giant robot game. Those two games have some insane customization levels and the combat is a lot like these games in that there's so many ways to make a build and fight. Think of Dark Souls in that you weigh protection vs. weight for armor and damage vs. ammo vs. weight and everything vs. balance (being too heavy in one area will affect you in AC games) and then throw in different computer sets which affect abilities (should I have targeting? range?) and engines that affect speed, power etc. then add rockets with different capabilities and that's how deep the combat can be. Then add in jumping and flying ability with tactics. When you're all done thinking of that and making what, you hope, will be a helluva (cheese) robot........then you get to start painting the damn thing. I spent more time making robots then anything else I swear and had a blast. If you like Dark Souls and Robots then that should make your list.

Agreed! Currently playing atm. The combat is actually quite similiar to dark souls. The difficulty i would say is also on par with dark souls.

The xbox 360 version is also coming soon.
