Blighttown!?

I just wanted to put it out there that Blighttown isn't so bad. Whenever I read articles about Dark Souls Blighttown is always mentioned as a being soul crushing. I will admit that in NG it is the first huge hurtle. Beating Blighttown the first time through was definitely a defining moment. It made me realize I wasn't as hopelessly effed as I had thought. Maybe I could kill that Black Knight on top of the keep. Now 140 hours in and up to Gwyn on NG+, I have found areas that I hate much more than Blighttown.

1. The Great Hollow - this requires no explanation as to this place is just awful.
2. The Duke's Archives - any place that you can die easily from archers is just the worst.
3. Hellkite Bridge - even by the end of NG, when I thought I was the king of Lordran that Red Dragon Bastard roasted me like a marshmallow.
4. Capra Demon - I know this isn't a place and I know that few will agree with me, but this boss has given me more trouble than any other, ever. I've read the strategies and watched videos but it manages to kill me or put my weapon at risk every time. I suspect that everyone has some boss that for whatever reason is kind of a pain.

I only hate upper btown. Lower isn't bad at all. I get the master key and never go up there.

Upper Btown, definitely worse. The aggro range on those pink lizards is ridiculous.

It also doesn't help that I get lost easily in games. I keep getting lost and frustrated. Ever since I found the magic of the Master key, I haven't gone back to actually learn the routes.

I agree that once you get through it you realise its not that bad but the first time you attempt it it feels so so long. Especially since they dont advertise that second bonfire. I made it all the way from the first bonfire to the 3 barbarians as a human, died and realised i had to do it all again. the first time you do it you have no comparison to theother worse areas so it seems absolutely dreadful.

With the capra demon you either need luck (which is how I beat it my first 3 times) or an amazingly timed roll (which is how I now attempt it). If you roll correctly you can dodge the demon and the first poison dog then be up and running before the second dog attacks.

Blight town made me shiver when I first got there all I could think of was Valley of Defilement from demons souls. Climbing down to the blight town is second only to the great hollow in terms of grief imo.

Capra Demon is pretty easy, once you understand his attack patterns and when to attack. The dogs are a PITA. Use the stairs and his slow moving to your advantage.

And, I used to hate the Hollow. Now, I only dislike it. I know the exact path to get me to the upper ladders, which makes the Hollow much easier. Just watch out for the cursed frogs.

^ THIS, I got past gaping got my key climbed down, and when I saw those long nosed crazy guys I gasped "no... no... NOOOOO NOT AGAIN!" I was not suprised at all when I saw the pool of POISON SWAMP, a big middle finger to you From, tapping into my nightmares like that.

I managed to do the level by myself, but through several runs helping other people. I found the 2nd bonfire right away, but had to climb back up because someone I co-oped with earlier that day messaged me asking me to help them with the area... going up felt worse than coming down..

Ah Blighttown. I love that place.Some of my fav gear comes from there.Also i hate lower alot more then upper.Blasted bugs.

blighttown is valley of defilement i n easy mode, it's a lot smaller and it doesnt have any trolls(specially bp trolls).

Valley was worse for me because of the open spaces. I HAVE to get through every inch and B. Town has reference points the whole time. I know I'm gonna get poisoned but I can always see safety. The valley did not offer me that security. The Depths was the worst for me in Dark for similar reasons. I took a accidental shortcuts which meant I had to try to do what I hoped was backtracking to make sure I got everything. Make me run a couple circles and suddenly my confidences ebbs

yeah biut how often does that happen? in over 300 hours of playing the games ive never seen one.

On my very first play through I used a theif and he came with a master key. I ended doing blighttown backwards. I had killed gaping dragon but never even noticed I had a key to blighttown. I was so excited to kill that damn lizard. Since I had discovered Btown early in the game due to the master key. I went back through the rear.

Killed queelag. Did some stuff in ash lake and great hollow then went up in reverse alllll the wayyyy to the frikking close door that I though could open from the Btown side!!!! :oops: :pale: :x

So I had to go all the way back through upper and lower Btown to get out of there... not fun. haha

you want to see some? ok you tell us when you will be at B town and at what sl. I will try to gather as many gravelords as I can. we will stand in the round PvP area. You will see us and know one of us gave you a curse. Then you come in here and tell us if you saw them. If you do. All the gravelords will put down their WSS and you will summon 2 of them so they can witness their work. Then after you guys killed or get killed you can invade to see which one will get rid of your curse LOL I will get my PS3 soon and I hope I can join in the fun.

lol i did the same thing, it was brutal going back down then back up.

Oh by the way the reason people don't see Black Phantoms is because there are not enough gravelords. Not because as some say it is broken. Sorry I had to say it.

My first run through for upper Blighttown. My god... Now I just go Firelink>New Londo>Valley of Drakes>Blighttown wheel. Going up that wheel has killed me more than any single enemy, boss, or area of the game. Personally, my least favorite area of the game was Sens on first playthrough. Now it's all of the Lord Soul areas. I HATE the Archives, and New Londo was miserable the first time, now it's just meh. Catacombs is awful, but ToTG is decent. Demon Ruins is meh, Izalith both ways is meh, but Bed of Chaos is evil. So yeah. Upper Blighttown is the worst, lower is pretty easy.

Great Hollow is actually quite easy. You can make it all the way down without jumping off a single branch & there aren't many enemies there. Though you'll miss most of the items that way.

I always kill him early on so this place isn't so bad. Besides you could always just run past him.

Pro tip a fog ring or hidden body will prevent the dogs from coming after you right away. Capra himself isn't that difficult.

As for Blighttown depends on which direction you're coming from. I personally think the hardest part of Blighttown is when coming from the Depths. If you ignore that section of Blighttown it's actually quite easy as you said.

all my builds are in the kiln and i dont wanna pvp there, i hate it. i might make a new build really soon, i really wanna fight those bp stone giants.

That's funny that you did Btown backwards too. Hey no rush bro when ever you are ready. I have not seen them myself. What I ought to do is make a build and run over there and level up slowly to see where the majority of sl are. But I guess that also depends on the day. And some people level up quite fast. I am curious now.

I actually like the Great Hollow, now.
First time I died a lot but if you know it it's actually quite easy, and those nice lizards always give me a slab

First time, I was in Ash lake without the Lordvessel and didn't realize you can go up and down the Hollow without jumping (there's a couple of ladders I didn't see) and I was scared of being trapped in Ash lake forever (and I forgot my sun lotion) :affraid:

Blighttown was alright, after I figured out the layout. The place I hated the most was actually Sen's Fortress. For the first 150hrs I avoided that place like the plague. After I decided to power through it, I was severely dissapointed in how short it was. I may have hated it, but it should have been a lot longer.

That's my main problem with Dark Souls. The levels are way, way too short.

Oh, and the Great Hollow was actually pretty fun. I farm Eyes of Death there when I get bored of the Depths. Basilisks are easy.

I agree with Sat. the first time through when you die 50 times everything seems to take ages but then you realise how short each level is once you get better at them.
