For organized events there's a competition near where I live where everyone builds the best sleds they can out of cardboard and then go down a big hill. Some of the more elaborate ones are more like parade floats than sleds.
Oh yeah.....and Polar Bear groups. I've done one in Rochester, NY twice to help raise money for Special Olympics
