Darkson, in nutrition terms sugars typically refer to simple carbohydrates. Depending on field you're both right. In chemistry terms sugars and carbohydrates can be interchangeable but nutrition terminology often separates them.

By the looks of it, I have successfully hijacked my own thread back.

I'd love to go to the States to try some real American food. Not what the rest of the world sees, but some real, hearty, homely food.

So you can say carbs can be/are a mixture of different sugar types/forms. ? So basically carbohydrates means sugar(s) I think.... ?

America: Isn't it so that you can basically fins every kind of food there? But mostly drenched in fat...

If I'm right, carbs and sugars are easily tranformed into one another by the body.

Let me see if I can remember chem. Carbohydrates are simply molecules made of C, H and O. Sugars or saccharrides are specific carbohydrates that we consume and use.

EDIT: Stolen from wikipedia - Sugar is the generalised name for a class of sweet-flavored substances used as food. They are carbohydrates and as this name implies, are composed of carbon, hydrogen and oxygen.

Lol......Darkson that's a stereotype. Wait....it's a heuristic actually because it's a good rule of thumb. Yeah, we're the country that decided it was a good idea to dip things (cookies, twinkies, candy bars, pickles, anything really) in pancake batter and then deep fry it, often ending with a coating of confectioner's sugar. You can find anything here but not everything in one place. I've been to an authentic Chinese restaurant for example. But I lived near Albany at the time. Now I'm in a rural area and I can only get the stuff that Jy mentioned in the first post. Also, we're pretty territorial with our food and authentic local stuff can be just as hard to find in other parts of the country as it is for you. For example I live near where Buffalo wings were first made. In other parts of the country I've been to the closest to authentic is Domino's pizza's take or similar and let me tell you it's not even close. Plus the local atmosphere means you have competition trying to top everyone else so here there's probably thousands of Buffalo sauce recipes. Apples are big where I live so our apple pies might be better than some other states while on the other hand it's hard to find a really good key lime pie here.

carbs do not = sugar...well they kinda do but not in the way you stated.

I'd like to try a good chilli dog, deep-dish pizza, buffalo wings, and Italian beef sandwich. Oh and ommelette with hash browns. I'll just go vegetarian for a week to balance it out.

Don't make me start chanting "U..S..A.......U..S..A!" and running around dressed in my flag cape to reclaim this forum! That's actually a misconception. Only 65% of Americans do this.

Jy.....you'd need more than a week I would imagine. In the hope of spreading my robust culture I can reiterate a proposal I made in a food thread awhile back and offer to share one or two Buffalo sauce recipes. My goal is to make the whole world just a little spicier. Also, Buffalo sauce is good on way more stuff than chicken wings. I do have one secret recipe I will never share. I can also provide some mad scientist takes I've done on classic American foods including the Rice Crispy treat recipe, my insane version of Apple pie, Buffalo Chicken casserole and miscake......a type of cake I made after I royally messed up on a key step.

We could just start a recipe thread?

Normally other countries really get a wrong idea of what the real America is like, but I'll say so that you never again misunderstand our country. If you want to know all you need to about America, this game by From Software actually hits the nail on the head. This is the most accurate portrayal of America I've seen in a foreign game, or in any foreign media.
