Re: The Rite of Kindling
I don't recall anyone pointing this out but I always assumed that the Rite of Kindling was linked to the Pygmy or humanity (likely both since most evidence suggests the Pygmy and Humanity are linked).
Also I don't think I said welcome yet so .....

Re: The Rite of Kindling
Thankyou sir im very happy to be part of the community. I love this game more than any other and i dont think my xbox has had to load anything else for months! I have to say that i agree with many, this is the best online community for a game in a long long time.
Im onto something here but i dont know what. Reah wanted the rite, she has a pendant etc etc etc.

Re: The Rite of Kindling
This is just speculation, but... Is it possible that the Rite of Kindling is the Pygmy's soul? Isn't it theroised that he was the first firekeeper, so dosen't it sort of make sence?
Anyways, good find, and welcome to the forums.

Re: The Rite of Kindling
Welcome to the forums, and its nice to see a fellow xbox member. Add me sometime, GT is Destrond.
As for your theory, when i first got this game, I looked into the pendant. So many people will sit there and say there is no secret behind it, but it took 23 years to find a secret hidden inside and old atari game, so I believe it does exist. As such, I think the "Easily Forgotten" pygmy is the tie that we are missing here. The pygmy might have been the first firekeeper, he might have learned how to feed the flames, and he might of also been the one influencing the coming of the dark age since he was "Forgotten", as in, removed from the history of Lordran. I think that the pygmy worked his way up to helping Gwyn in sustaining the age of fire, but after the creation of the Undead, he wanted to end it. Gwyn refused to let that happen, and sent the Pygmy to the asylum. The pygmy, however, refused to let it end there. His actions afterward are unknown, but they lead to the events that your character walks through.
All speculation. The Rite of Kindling was obtained by Pinwheel from Nito, who oversaw the undead, and obtained it from the pygmy through means I can't really explain. With it, he oversaw the growth of the undead. I'm not sure, but Nito might of been in League with the Pygmy, but there isn't much to confirm my suspicion. I think the Pendant might have the answer, but we won't know until its discovered.

Re: The Rite of Kindling
Acidic Cook where are you????? Since he speculated that Velka may be the First Firekeeper, I have been theorizing that she may be the Pygmy as well. This is because Velka was involved in ancient rites, and I think she may have created that rite using the power of the Dark Soul, the Large Flame ember and the Dark Ember. Acid is working on this as well and he found out that the Server (curved sword)was also used in ancient rites. It must be her.

Re: The Rite of Kindling
Hmm wow, well i made another thread to do with the embers and the braziers because they look allot like ornate urns. They also match aesthetically to main characters in dark souls. Also there are as many braziers as embers, sort of if you count the lord vessel one.
Im thinking they link to covenants and you should forsake their use accordingly to which covenant your in. Thereby enabling you to complete the covenant. Some would require new game plus. Hence "many playthroughs..."
Im just not sure why

Where is Acidic Cook? I know he's probably done more research on this than any of us, combined.

Probably in the sewers, preparing a careless pyromancer for dinner.
