Why did you purchase Dark Souls?

So guys, why did each of you end up purchasing Dark Souls? Did a preview catch your interest? Did you play Demon's Souls? Did you see it in a store and picked it up for the hell of it? Your eventual answers intrigue me.

As can be seen in my signature, I am an Xbox 360 player. I had only seen glimpses of Demon's Souls and to this day barely know anything about it. My friend, who plays both systems, had chatted with me while playing it and tipped me off to it's multiplatform sequel.

It had been awhile since I was really challenged as a gamer, so the thought of the difficulty the game would pose was enough to hype me up for it. I ended up pre-ordering it and picked it up before everyone else I knew. I played the heck out of it until I ended up selling it due to peer pressure to get BF3.

A week ago I picked it up again and ended up falling in love all over again. My only regret is that I'll probably never end up playing the first game. So what about you guys?

Played some Demon Souls and then pre ordered Dark Souls.

Played Demons Souls....but didn't get very far, a friend of mine actually got the game first and after singing it's praises I gave it a look....there's no going back now....

Saw a review giving it 5 stars in my paper when I'd never heard of it, looked it up and instantly felt like it was something different that I wanted to try.

I wasn't wrong to do so.

I see from your signature that you're a Playstation player, do you plan on going back and playing Demon's Souls or have you already?

I was watching a gameinformer video about demon souls where they were playing it, and the people playing it said they weren't just playing it because it was hard. They said that it was actually many of the people in the office's game of the year, this made me excited to check it out.

I got it... well actually pre-ordered the Special Edition of it much like I had done with DeS - I never did get to NG+ with DeS I always would stay on NG no matter what - I even killed King Allant and then just evacuated to make Northern Regalia if i wanted it xD - that meant I never had Soulsucker to be a little ***** and hack level ups :L But it was definitely DeS and the fact that I saw it was coming out that made me get it.

Looked cool. And Hyper gave it 9/10 for masochists.

My friend made me rent it while I slept over at his house, I hadn't even heard about it at that stage.

My wife bought it for me as a present because of the good reviews. I had never heard of it or demon souls. Now my wife complains that I stay up late playing it.

Rpg fan since 80's, I like hard games oldschool style, played demon souls because of this and then came Dark Souls.

played demon's souls(which is my second fave game ever, metal gear solid is number one) and i got it day one, i never preorder cause i dont care about the crappy goodies or collectors editions and i know they will have it day one even if they always tell you to preorder cause theyre gonna run out of them.

A friend showed me Demon's Souls about a month before the release of Dark Souls and I thought it looked amazing so I preordered Dark Souls on a whim. One of the best preorders I ever got.

I was watching some video game channel on youtube, I forget which one, and I see a video entitled "top ten ways to survive Dark Souls." Intrigued, I clicked on the video. I watched it, and the game looked really cool, so I google " Dark Souls." I see the Dark Souls Wiki as one of the suggestions, so I went to that. Ten minutes later, I bought Dark Souls off Amazon, and I have loved it ever since.

I saw the Bartholomew trailer (and I had this name before the trailer I'd like to point out) and thought it was one of the best trailers I had ever seen. I'm a big fan of sword and sorcery and also dark, evil fantasy, so this game immediately caught my eye. I was a little hesitant to buy it because I have a history of not coping so well with hard games, but I eventually decided on buying it and loved it ever since.

Forgot to mention that I personally think that Dark Souls has the best trailers I've ever seen for anything. I still watch them even though I've had the game for six months now

I would say that I initially became interested in Dark Souls when I heard it was by the same developer as King's Field. I had never heard of Demon's Souls, and had all but forgotten about all those long hours spent playing KF on my ps1! Well, after noticing there was alot of hype surrounding this game, I stumbled across the DkS Wiki, and my pre-order came soon after!

There's gotta be an entertaining and original way to say "I loved Demon's Souls, so I got Dark Souls on release..." :|

S&M seemd like over board to me so I went a little lighter aka Dark souls. LOL

Heard about Dark Souls and it's learning curve and overall difficulty, and my gamer pride felt challenged. I finished it in two weeks; it has become my favourite game ever. Eagerly expecting any chance to get Demon Souls and any sequel to DkS.

Watched some of the Gamefront playthrough, but wasn't very interested. Then I watched some of Northernlion's playthrough, and that intrigued me. A few days of fantasy and research later, 'twas mine.
