is it better to have a weapon that is upgraded twinkling titanite or one that is upgraded with shards and can get elemental damage? i have been wondering whether i should use my black knight sword or some other weapon?

Generally Black Knight weapons are good candidates due to their high base damage and scaling, however normal weapons can be given comparable damage once fully upgraded to +5 Lightning or +10 Fire etc.
You will want to save Twinkling Titanite for later on when you need the damage upgrades, I'd suggest learning the ins and outs of a couple weapons you like, then deciding on which to use. My Black Knight Greataxe is +5 after using Twinkling Titanite and it now does some of the highest physical DPS in the game.

the good thing aout bk weapons is that you can get them early in the game and theyre some of the best in the game but on once you have 40 str there's certain weapons that are better than them when upgraded to +15. if you like great swrods and are a str build you should get a man serpent gs and up it to +15, its gonna be one of your best friends in the game.

In terms of raw damage the MSGS will outperform most other weapons, especially at +15 with a buff, however I've found the moveset of a weapon is incredibly important, at least in PvP, the Claymore and Bastard Sword are almost exactly the same, but the Bastard Sword doesn't have a thrust attack, and as such I would never even consider using it. That is why I suggest finding a weapon you like very much, and upgrading it.

@fussion, the claymore's thrust attack is only good in pve, ive never been hit by it nor have i seen someone land a hit with it but yeah, claymore and bastard are good for elemental buffs only though, scaling sucks.

On the contrary, the thrust attacks of many weapons have surprising reach and speed, and as a result I prefer to use them in PvP as opposed to a short arcing swing.

i get what youre saying, what i mean is if youre dueling a decent player and you do the thrust attack its gonna be a sure bs. you either have to time it right or hope the lag reaches them.

thanks for the quick replies.
i think i will be using ornsteins spear, a black knight axe and a 15+ uchigatana. switching between them as i need/want. do you think these are good weapons to use?

if its gonna be your all around build id say go for it, the bkga has the best moves of all the great axes. just try everything and pick whatever feels good for you.

For God's sake don't be another BKGA user. It is soooo boring....by far the most overused weapon in the game.

Large club is pretty nice to, its 1h strong attack is decently fast and covers a nice sized area, at +15 it has a str modifer of A, I think mines AR with 35 str is 581.

no, claymore is the most overused but yeah bkga is a close second, both are very noob friendly and have good moves, specially the bkga. personally i use the demon great machete and ive never been killed by a bkga while using it, msgs is my back up sword.

i love using it on pvp when they dont know about about the r2 strong attack, its just like the laito but covers more ground but if people know about it its really easy to get bs'd.

Re: "special" weapons vs normal weapons
I'm going to agree with fusion on the claymore. I've used the thrust attack plenty when an invader jumps or commits to an attack. Getting them to impale themselves on your sword is pretty sweet and it has better reach than the bastard sword, but the bastard sword is faster ... Tough choice so I use both. The msgs is also pretty good and I've only just started using a club to see what it's like.
If you like a weapon tho why not make a max fire, lightning and a +15 to keep you happy? I've done it with the b.sword and the MSGS

If ur gonna go fire wouldn't it be better to go chaos? Does more dmg then just +10 fire doesn't it?

Re: "special" weapons vs normal weapons
I love my machete, I tried all the weapons in all my builds and they all use the machete or msgs with sunight blade. And if you're chaos is better but only use it if you can constantly have 10 humanity on you.
