I believe he means if you are summoned AFTER the host has already been invaded. I have never seen an alert in those situations. But yes, if I am already in a host's world and then an invader shows up, the "'so and so' has invaded..." message pops up.
I agree with OP, it would be nice to know, because i have been summoned as a phantom before, and been backstabbed by an invader i had no clue was even there.

Yeah, indeed. In Demon Souls when I entered a world as blue phantom and the host had an invader hiding somewhere, I still got the alert an invader was present. Not so in Dark Souls. That is a bit annoying, not a great deal, but still a difference with DS.
