Dark hand...
Is using the dark hand feasable in PVP? I'd like to use it in a build to hide the switch to the pyro glove. Can you tank a hit and parry with it or is the stability too low?

Re: Dark hand...
Dark Hand is GREAT for parries, in a lot of ways it is my favorite shield, 80s in elemental block across the board does make up for its relatively low 80 physical block. However, at its low 40 stability tanking hits with it is an impossibility, the Dark Hand allows you to block one swing, and only one swing, try to block more and you will get decimated.
Eingyi (The Fair Lady's servant in Quelaag's Domain) gives you your second Pyro Flame, provided you are infected with the Egg Head disease and are a Chaos Servant (there may be some statistical requirements as well).

Re: Dark hand...
The dark hand is great for mind games. Every time i see one i want to keep mashing r1 to break their guard, but i know that i will be parried if i spam r1.

Re: Dark hand...
Normally i'll block the first swing and parry the second. Other than that i do more dodging than blocking. But i'll need to block a hit from bigger weps like the BKGA and MLGS.

Re: Dark hand...
If you're not at full stam, or damn close, you'll get your guard broken constantly when blocking. That's my experience anyway. And it can't setup parry.

Re: Dark hand...
im not sure if it happens with every weapon but every time you take hit it pushes you back shich wont let you set up a parry, i love using it for blind parries, i use either the heater shield or dark hand on all my toons.

Re: Dark hand...
Yeah "Great for parries" is an exaggeration, it has normal hand speed, thats it.
I use it on my bandit build just incase I need to block ranged, but in melee I wouldnt count on it at all.
Its a transition from shield-no shield

Re: Dark hand...
Its a great when you don't have any weight to spare for a real shield. But like said before, it's not a reliable turtling shield to be sure, ha! If used in emergencies when you absolutely have to block that one hit to free time to escape.

Re: Dark hand...
Thats basically what i will be using it for. An emergency "just in case" kind of thing. Throw in a random parry on occasion or block one strike...

Re: Dark hand...
i really like it cause its only weighs .5,has great elemental defense, and is great for parries. i dont use it to block anything but pyro, magic, miracles ext. off topic, but if the spider shield actually blocked poison in pvp it would be one of my favorite shields for pvp. oh and rant its not like it is useful or anything, but i love that when you block and get pushed back and do that backwards roll animation. it just looks cool.
oh and dark hand is great for if you 2hand a lot(grass crest is another obvious choice) cause although it has **** stability its great for if you need to block elemental. its better to block normal attacks with your weapon tho they usually have about the same stability.

Re: Dark hand...
I use my parrying dagger for blind parries. I try to predict their attack and moves. I'll switch to it really fast, roll, then come out parrying really close to them. I haven't had a successful parry since my low SL days hosting solo in the forest, and they had some PRETTY predictable attacks, but I also almost never try.
In all reality, I SHOULD have a dark hand and my pyro glove, do the perm resin glitch, which COMPLETELY hides the dark hand and glove. Almost completely hides the dagger.
If you guys haven't heard of the perm resin glitch, it doesn't keep the effect on, but it keeps the visual on. It's just for looks, but if used in this way, I can see it being a big "cheap" but it looks SO amazing to have part of my fire halberd on fire (it doesn't REALLY keep the visual effect. it puts your hands on fire and a little spot up your weapon on fire) and to have my hands on fire It's a pain to put on when invading though. It lasts until death, but it resets when you invade. So you have to do it all over again.

Re: Dark hand...
the dark hand...oh how i could go on about you all day, so i will!
the dark hand is a great weapon for any aspiring fist user. with 200 damage, and 120 occult damage, youll be smashing faces in low level pvp and look good doing it! the way it glows gives off an aura of death and despair that perfectly matches any gravelords looking for a way to look even scarier. its .5 weight allows much more gear freedom, making it a good way to surprise any overaggressive invaders/victims when you take out that smoughs hammer and smash their face into the ground. and who could forget the humanity draining attack? sure its hard to land on anything but a friendly npc, but nothing demoralizes an enemy more than suddenly losing 10 humanity to their opponent.
its applications as a shield are just as useful as using it in your right hand. the black hole of doom stops 80% of all damage (as mentioned earlier by the others) making you able to block against any damage type equally. it can also parry quite well. sure any medium shield can parry but, what looks cooler? sweeping an enemies weapon aside with a hunk of metal? or using some of your collected cool guy points to sweep that giant hammer away from you and pound them into the ground?
in short: dark hand is the best thing ever.

Re: Dark hand...
I loved the Dark Hand, but now I hate it because everytime I try to block an attack it pushes me far from the opponent and as an aggressive player it's a very annoying effect.

Re: Dark hand...
depending on my setup i often have it sloted as a second sheild. whenever i see magic user with crystal magic weap, CSS, CHSM, DMB, SLB i whip it out. the dark pit eats these magic buffs......
