Which Artorias Sword is better to upgrade too and which base weapon to use?

Deciding now to go with a sword instead of the Shield with Sif's souls once I have defeated him.. I wanted to know which is better?

I dont have a weapon that deal damage to the ghost of New Londo.. If I went with the Cursed version is it effective in the normal game as well?

I am a Wanderer. Dex and Str build 24/26 at the moment SL 64

What base sword is the best to use (as I read that using a Flamberge offers the 300 bleed damage once ascended which is a nice little touch over and above the other swords)

Always go with the uncursed sword, the extra damage is better then being able to wack some spooks.

are there any benefits from using the Broken Straight Sword +10 over the Straight Sword Hilt +10 when ascending the weapon or does it start (regardless of what sword you use) a plain standard Astoria sword?? No other benefits at all?

You can also ascend using a Flamberge +10 in order to give the sword a bleed effect of 300. (Flamberge dose not give bleed 5/20/2012)

could someone confirm the above Flamberge comment?? does it provide bleed damage if using the Flamberge +10 over the above two??

Don't know anything about this sword, sry. But I do know stuff about ghosts. Don't rely on a weapon that can hurt them because if you're not cursed and you charge in there with just a cursed sword you'll simply kill one or two ghosts before dying, but you'll still die. The cursed weapon will be the ONLY thing in your arsenal capable of interacting with the ghosts, which means your shield won't block them, your projectiles will pass through them and your magic will do nothing. You need to either get a permanent curse from the basilisks or use a transient curse, you'll just die in many embarrassing ways trying anything else.

Best tip is to equip the transient curse and keep it selected on screen. It will be greyed out if your under the affects of the item and light up again when you need to reapply. Many times I've died because I didn't notice it wore off.

Still might test out the Flamberge ascension, I love me bleeding can anyone confirm if they have attempted this with the 300 bleeding effect?

is this for pvp or pve, both of them suck for pvp but if youre going for pve go with the true sword since it will put out more damage(except the archive's) if youre gonna pvp youre better off getting a man serpent gs, greatlord gs, flamberg or claymore.

Well for PvE only pick whichever one you want. The damage split only hurts you in PvP

then go with the true gsoa then, its one of the coolest looking weapons in the game and one of the strongest too(for pve).

If it's solely for PvE, take your pick. I would go with the un-cursed version, because screw the Catacombs skeletons and the ghosts are easy.

PvP with your build, I would have gone with cursed since it is better unless you have high faith and Int.

To the best of my knowledge, the Flamberge bit is false. Upgrading a Grass Crest Shield to a boss shield doesn't keep it's effect, I don't see why the Flamberge would.

If you plan on using a pure Dex/Str. build, go with the Cursed, as it'll take a long time to have the stats to use the true one effectively, and by that point, you'll be above normal PvP SL range. You still need Int. and Fai. requirements to wield the cursed version by the way, so don't go with it at all unless you want to invest those extra points. I believe at 40/40 it'll be stronger than a GLGS by a decent amount of damage, but without the extra stunlocking power that weapon has.

thank you all, I beat Sif first time, he was literally the easiest boss so far in the game for me! Did it blind, never watched a walkthrough or anything! I stuck on Smoughs Leggings/Greaves with my +5 Eastern Armour and the Stone Armour head.. with my +5 Black Knight Sword (Havels Ring) and used 2 estus flasks (half health twice)

I was super chuffed with myself ahahha!

Anyway, I saw the requirements and I am on 11 Intelligence and 8 Faith no way in hell am I ever going to get close to that and upgrade them further to really get the best out of the uncursed sword (maybe even the cursed one) scaling wise) so I have still got the Soul.. not sure if I should rather get the shield...

Still mulling it over.. I wont be able to use the swords until like halfway through NG+ so I decided against it

Greatshields are epic

My Forest Hunter, who has been sadly neglected lately, uses the true GSoA and the Greatshield along with Elite Knight for a close as possible cosplay of Artorias.

@OP, the Cursed is better, simply put, the AR may be 100 less, but its pure physical damage.

However, I find that neither of them are worth the investment. You can do 500+ AR with 50 Str on a greatsword. The 100 point increase simply wouldn't be worth it.

Thats the comparison of a CGSoA, a GSoA, a GLGS (C/C scaling), and an occult MSG.
See how little of a difference it would make to just invest in the GLGS with a 50/50 build, then put the rest into other essential stats? With a 50/50/50/50 you're up to SL 160 already.

Conclusion- the Greatswords of Artorias aren't worth it.

Don't use either, it's a cool weapon, but entirely impractical.

Great Lord Sword will easily give you the same damage with maybe 5 less AR with much less stats being that it needs no INT or FAI.

If you are already a mix build, might as well use it, but don't build a toon just to use it, that's ineffective.

The person who created the thread just gives up on using any of the swords and ends up creating builds for other weapons. I love this because makes me look more badass and unique

You're right, the GSoA from a practical standpoint is lacking, but for a sentimental point it is good. Rare and fearsome, its more of a terror weapon nowadays

Heh, I went straight for this weapon on my first character. all 45's in the relevant stats. was so depressed when It barely outperformed the MLGS....
