Theory on the Player Empty Theory on the Player

Post by Lancelot Sun Jun 17, 2012 1:52 am

Not sure if this has been speculated before, but here goes:

At the Asylum, you meet Oscar, a knight of Astora who was on a "mission," which he "failed." Now he says this to you:

"Regrettably, I have failed in my mission…
But perhaps you can keep the torch lit…"

What if, maybe, he was actually supposed to become the Dark Lord/Fire-Linker, and you take over for him.
His whole dialogue is really evidence of this. Unless, of course, an interview actually states that the Player is, in fact, a descendant of the Pygmy. Otherwise, Kaathe could just be guessing that you're the true descendant.

Just didn't know if anyone thought of this.

Ghadis said he was previously meant to be the dark lord and your rival but it was cut.

All humans are suggested to be a descendant of the Pygmy, as Humanity are fragments of the Dark Soul. As well he mentions in his family there is the prophecy of the chosen undead, and that he was seeking to fulfill it but failed. More so it seems the chosen undead isn't fate exactly. It is that whoever can perform the tasks is the chosen undead. The title isn't by birth, it is by action.

So, no one is really the "chosen undead". It's more like, with humans, a race to fulfill the prophecy.

Indeed, almost like a slayer title. One isn't born, "Slayer of Gorbox the devourerer." By killing Gorbox you get the title. Plus some hot women.

You should go to the 'There's More to Them' thread and read the Oscar section. You'll enjoy it

I would say Oscar attempted to full fill the prophecy himself, reached a point at which he could not cintinue. Then through unknown means came to the conclusion the player is the chosen undead, at which point he came to the asylum and freed you. Then he is mortally wounded after falling through the ceiling, at which point you meet him.
