    The Elder Scrolls Empireoftamriel-1

Do you play Arena, Daggerfall, Skyrim, Oblivion, Morrowind, some spin off Ipod game, want to talk about it? Then this is the place for you! Come on in and discuss the Elder Scrolls, this thread was made due to the topic hijacking some threads. I believe we are in two threads, one about our views of the main quests as well as the freedom within the game. Another about how we view the books and storytelling within the game.

Also, what are your favorite races? For me it depends on what I'm playing.

    Warrior, Argonian/Orc.

    Mage, Altmer/Brteon.

    Thief, Imperial/Nord.

Such as my idea as the Shadow of Lorkhan being the next antagonist of the TES game? Which I know Bethesda wouldn't do because it's like they've forgotten about their own lore.

The only thing I hate about Bretons is conjuration, they seriously *** that Mechanic up so badly in Skyrim.

I am always a Breton, typically a battlemage or what i shall call a templar/paladin (emphasis on melee combat with a few defensive supposrt magics). I tried Dark Elves, Imperials, Nords, and Wood Elves but I always go back to Breton.

Also Tolvo in response to what you said in our hijack the vampire lords were made because vamps were woefully underpowered and they are strengthening werewolves as well. However I suspect the Dawnguard will have some weapon specialized versus vamps as the silver hand did with werewolves (sort of). Regardless I look forward to it myself because even if the quests suck the general changes seem okay.

I avoid conjuration now as I prefer to fight my own battles. I used to rely on it but the I realized how boring it got for me. I now use alteration and restoration mostly, destruction on a battlemage character.

That's what I was trying to do with the races, but then Bretons reminded me of that haha.

Actually something I always liked was a little unintentional thing in Skyrim. Since Altmer and Orsimer are so tall they have increased movement speed.

Actually one thing I like about TES is the Elves. I almost always hate elves in any fiction, but these elves aren't beautiful perfect beings. Many of them are racists, arrogant, wood elves are cannibal romantics, dunmer are daedra like amoral slavers, Orsimer are gruff and tough survival of the fittest types, I actually quite like the Elves.

It's just a sad part of balancing that a lot of game companies don't get.

"What vampires are weak? Well let's make them super powerful!"

"What now Werewolves are weak? Buff them too!"

Tolvo I see your point but like I said I suspect the Dawnguard faction may have some solutions to that. I play as neither of the two so I would gladly destroy them all given the chance. I was sad that there was no way to join the silver hand and wipe out the werewolves.

Yeah, that was something I really wanted as well, the Silver Hand. Now if the Dawnguard act like that and give you quests hunting werewolves and vampires, other abominations. Sort of act like the Witchers from that series, alright I might bite. But vampires just don't interest me at all in any series anymore, and at the time being they are giving out info mostly about the Vampires and only a little about the Dawnguard which worries me.

Yeah the Dawnguard faction had better not be a let down. I want to hunt and kill abominations not be one. That also brings me to my next point; I hate the fact that you must become a werewolf to finish the companions quest line. What they should have done is offer a branching off at one point where you can either side with the companions or silver hand. They are both "fighter" factions or close enough to it so it could have worked. As is the only factions I actually can do and stick to the roleplay aspect are Mages guild (if I am doing a battlemage) and Imperials. Thats my problem now that I think about it; there isn't enough roleplaying in Skyrim.... it's all just set paths that don't affect each other. At least I got to destroy the Dark Brotherhood.

As odd as it sounds, Skyrim is just way too linear if you ask me. As well the world doesn't really seem to be living. Everything requires you to make it happen. The war doesn't solve itself over time, groups don't fight without you around. You are just the trigger for everything and I've never really liked that in gaming.

I like Skyrim for the dungeon delving and combat aspects but you nailed it Tolvo; the quests are all linear with very little choice presented. Many quests seem to have no effect on the world and some which should directly affect others in at least some way don't. I'm not saying Oblivion was much better but at least in that there was some quest intersection if not much. Unfortunately rpgs,The Elder Scrolls in this case, are being made to be accessible to the average gamer which makes them less appealing to rpg'ers such as ourselves. I still play them but I don't like the direction they are going.

Yeah, it really makes me wish I had the PC version so I could work on some mods, because that's all I'd do. Make branching quests with different decisions that aren't as simple as Good or Bad, and try and actually add stories with a lot more depth and better written characters. I might even add some books of my own haha.

I really want Black Marsh or Valenwood. Black Marsh because it has the most mystery. But the issue, how will other characters survive there? Outside of Argonians, think about if everything gave a disease that killed you in a few hours. Playing non-Argonians, it would be practically impossible.

Valenwood though, Imga man, Imga. I want IMGA!
