At this point, I am just plain frustrated! I pull out this "firekeeper soul" (don't know where I'm pulling it from, seeing how I'm wearing a waistcloth) and throw it down at the mute woman's feet!

The woman picks up the soul, the points at your flask. You are not sure why, but you oblidge her request and hand it to her. After casting a spell, the soul flies into the flask, with a flash of light. You do not think you could perform the trick yourself, and keep in mind to visit her in the future if you need more flasks.

Your flask is now rank 2/8. It heals 300 HP at a time now.
Your flask temporarily heals 50% more then usual, due to the blessings of the firekeeper.

What do you do?

Heading back towards the bonfire, I spot another doorway into the shrine, which I somehow missed before. I carefully walk through, and notice a glowing orange sign on the ground.

"Fatty ahead."

Unsure of what this strange message could mean, I ready my weapon and slowly continue forward...

You approach the large shrine, thinking you might take a look at the large shaft heading upwards once you. You spot a somewhat fat man standing in the shrine, he appears to be in deep thought.

I go ahead and approach this man hoping that he can be a bit chatty than the armored man by the bonfire and the mute woman.

The man takes a glance at you, before rudely asking you to keep your distance.

Thinking that I approached him quite respectfully I talk to him again and ask, "What gives?"

I'm in a good mood so I decide to give him a second chance.

The man sniffs at you, he seems overall arrogant, but he speaks nicely this time.
"I'm sorry for how I treated you a moment ago, please, take this as a token of my gratitude and apologies."
He hands you 1 silver coin
"....No, it's for you, I insist."
The man offers to teach you miracles as well, but insists you must pledge allegiance to his gods before he will.

Not being overly religious but thinking that a little divine blessing couldn't hurt in this dangerous world.

I pray with the man.

The man informs you that you need a talisman to use miracles. he offers to sell you one for 30 copper coins*

*100 copper > 1 silver
100 silver > 1 gold
100 gold > 1 platinum (although I doubt we'll get there!)

Question: So are souls only used for leveling, while coins are used for buying from merchants?

That is correct. Souls are now immediately used upon being picked up, and I inform you when one can and can not level up. I feel this will make things more strategical, and overall easier to keep track of on paper.

Ok, then. I won't go overboard here, but I'll spend 30 copper coins on the Heal miracle, leaving me with a new spell and 70 copper coins left over.

I don't know if others will decide to level up Faith but in case we do, we'll at least have the basic spell at our disposal.

You misheard me, he offered to sell you a talisman for 30 copper coins. He has not listed any of his spells yet, because seeing you do not have a talisman, he'd rather greedily get you to buy one of those.

Forget it then, I'm not spending 30 coins on a talisman. I'd rather inspect that elevator shaft.

It is smooth on it's way up, and you do not think you could scale it. You are wary of the hole below it.

I always found it odd that they just knew it was you. They would not be insta-hostile... but it might make them extra suspicious of you.

Fine, I'll go a little longer.

I see inside the shaft and though there clearly is no way for me to get up I can see that the drop is by no means fatal. In fact, it's nothing more than 10' drop.

Being close enough to my home base I feel confident enough to explore the unknown.
