Artorias and Gough

So here's what I think of the two. I think that Artorias is unmatched with a greatsword even tough his left arm is broken or paralyzed and that Gough
(assuming this is him)is a fantastic archer even tough he is unable to see.

If you watch the prepare to die trailer and see Artorias on the end you see that his left arm doesn't even move the slightest.

IF this is indeed Gough. Look at his helmet. There is some kind of mud or rust all over it and you cant see anything trough that helmet.

This made me think that maybe all of the 4 knights had some kind of handicap? I can't see any handicap from Ornstein and I know nothing about Ciarin. Anyway, please let me know what you think.

smoughs a FAILED knight, so... the 4 knights are as follows Ciaran (assasin, hornet rings owner), Ornstein(Lancer, owner of the leo ring ) Gough(Archer, owner of the hawk ring) Artorias(Heavy knight, owner of the wolf ring)

Smough is indeed not one of the 4 knights. We are talking about Gough the leader of the greatarchers.

Cough, cough......Prior to the Abyss travels he was also an owner of a Greatshield so he was no stranger to swinging that sword one handed. LOTR reference here: After striking the Nazgul (Ring Wraith), Eowyn and Merry were both stricken and weakened and there weapons disintegrated. Perhaps a Dark Wraith attack is responsible. The shield maybe prevented death but couldn't stop the entire assault.

Or maybe he cursed his own left hand on accident or needed to do so in order to curse his sword.

Why would he willingly handicap himself in such a capacity though? It even shows on his armor that he has a cut on his shoulder.

Also, in the trailer the arm does move. It bends backwards before flopping down, dead.

He would do that in order to curse his weapon in order to get to the DW's, in order to create a covenant with them, in order to betray them, to hunt them. Because he hunted DW's.

Artorias probably couldn't handle the full power of the dark hand... or he tried to use it on his own primordial serpent..

Joe your logic is EXTREMELY out there. And not in the good way.

He was a knight first, so he started with his divine blade. He fell and took up the cursed blade after he made the covenant.

How do you know that? Skare and i both think that he made the covenant in order to continue to kill dw's. Its a very likely theory.

Because it's an overly complex plan. If his pact was with Beatrice then I can understand it, because they both were looking to defeat the 4 kings. But if it was with the darkstalker, it's probably what led to him being killed (possibly by Ciaran)

It isn't that complicated. Really, it's more complicated to try to find a motive for him to suddenly change and betray Gwyn, suddenly wanting to be allies with his enemies and Kaathe. And remember, Kaathe can't trick him by telling him that the Dark Soul is made for him, since he's not undead. None of the Knights are human. Because of that, it's simpler for him to simply want to finish Kaathe and the DW's off once and for all. To do so, he'd just need to get close. How does he get close? By killing the ghosts, but he needs a cursed weapon in order to do so. This explains why he needs the cursed weapon. If he needed an occult weapon, he'd have an occult weapon, but not one that is cursed, really. Why is it cursed? The Dark Sword that the DW's use isn't cursed.

I just can't see how him actually changing sides fits in with the big picture.

Tolvo and I actually have other reasons for him to have fallen, but for the life of me I cant remember them *facepalm*. However Gwyn isnt human, and he hollows.

Where does it say that he hollowed? Idk for sure if that's what he really is.

Plus, I believe our main speculation about Humanity Sprites are that they're only usable by undead and humans. Though, I guess a soul is a soul, and gods can use it too *shrug*

When he dies he goes hollow, lok at his skin and stuff.

No, he'd have to get into the abyss (which may have more entrances than just new londo) so he would make a pact that could walk in it, like with beatrice.

However, we don't know the entire history of the character, and he had an unbending will. He may have decided on his own that what Gwyn and the knights were doing wasn't the right thing to do, and opposed the idea of killing the people of new londo and using humanity to feed the bonfires.

Yeah. I guess you're right. His fingers are all scraggly and such. Still, Gwyn and all the Knights are not descendants of the pygmy, and thus, Kaathe's story couldn't really trick any of them.

Though, it's not too much of a stretch that Kaathe tricked Artorias. Just as much of a stretch that Artorias is still a good guy.

Why a cursed weapon?
