Something I've never seen from Petrus before....

Hey guys, just started a new character, made it to the parish, came down through the elevator back to Firelink, and then I went to talk to Petrus real quicklike. I'm a Knight, so I was already a member of WoW, and when I spoke to him just now with the Talk option, he asked for 2,000 souls to "show my dedication." Not sure what for, but I didn't have 2,000 souls so I said No. Now whenever I talk to him he only says "I am afraid that may be difficult, for our missions are sacred."

I'm sure someone else has seen this before. So, what exactly happens if you give him that 2k?

He'll tell you what he and the other clerics are doing in Lordran, mentioning the Rite of Kindling which is held by the Pinwheel boss.

That worked out well for you. My first playthrough I had the souls and gave them to him. He told me a little sliver of backstory and that was it. A nice example of Fromsoft sticking it to the new guy. lol.

I was considering doing a run where I got the Rite of Kindling before I talked to him or Rhaea. Has anyone tried that before?

Yes its been done. She doesnt say anything different. not even if yo ugo down and kill patches.
