Depends on the fun you are looking for. Do you want to kill some sinful gankers? Put the ring. Do you want to invade the scared guilty quester who roams Lordran? Use the orb.

Personally I found that being a Darkwraith is more consistent in invasions numbers but can set you up against some really bad odds.

The ring will summon you to dark AL which has a shorter lock-on range, if that bothers you use the orb to invade in whatever area you are in. I tend to use both at the same time if I'm looking for lots of PvP.
