If you are unaware, in the Catacombs, if you take any shortcut and rest at the Tomb of Giants bonfire without rotating both of the bridges; then you're effectively stuck in that place unless you have the Lordvessel or know your way down the secret path to the TWoP.

So what I wanted was that upon defeating Pinwheel, since Patches is going to move to the ToG anyways, both rotating bridges should be placed upright as to facilitate a means of return. Because, I mean, getting out of the ToG is hard and you will be slightly persuaded to go there after ringing the blightown bell (more or less) to search for Rhea.

    Problem is:

    A) Getting out of the ToG manually is difficult due to some battles on the way up
    B) Wheel Skeletons
    C) Path to TWoP is dangerous if you don't know about it
    D) VERY far off bonfires

I don't even know how you would get to ToG without rotating both bridges.

I did this by accident on a sl11 toon and had to work my way out. I'd have to say no, they shouldn't patch it.

I don't think they really should, since if you know enough about the level layout to be able to take the falling shortcut, then you most likely also know where to find the TWoP exit. And if it's about having to fight your way back up...well, you either spend the effort fighting your way down and opening up the bridges or you spend your effort fighting your way back up after taking the shortcut.

Those who live by the shortcuts shall die by the shortcut.

I think you can actually leave the place even if you haven't rotated the bridges. Haven't tried it, but I've heard of it.

It's like saying they should patch the Great Hollow, since it's a bother to climp it up all again. silly

I agree. Fighting your way out will be very challenging to someone who hasn't learned the level very well yet, but it's not that difficult. The most challenging part is making it up the ladder from TotG, but that's near the bonfire so its easy to try again quickly if you fail. Once you hit the catacombs again, it's fairly easy.

-The skeleton wheels aren't that big of a threat when you carefully lure one or two out at a time.
-The bridges? Doesn't matter if they've been rotated or not, you can just take the TWoP / Crystal Lizard paths.

There have been patches to make the game easier, some of which I think they went a little too far with*. I wouldn't want them to patch an easier way out of the Catacombs... they should stick to their guns on the challenge they designed. I think they should even patch the game to make Pinwheel a little more difficult. Give him twice the health, or something.

*I do agree with them adding souls to killed Skeletons, because it's a handy way to know the enemy is dead for certain. I enjoy that comfort. It's especially helpful for co-op, when one person isn't using a divine weapon and you want that reassurance that the enemy is dead. For me, it's not about easier access to souls... I'd be happy if they only gave 1 soul each.

Nope, the only way in and out Ash Lake is through the Great Hollow, or the Bonfires.

@OP Thats where the real Dark Souls begins twisted
Did it on my SL 20. Took forever, so much concentration (relatively few deaths) and I hated every second. But its one of my favourite dark souls moments.

So I am curious... How will gaining the TWoP help you get out quicker? o_O... Isn't it located in the middle of absolutely nothi-- Oh yeah. It connects to where the second Necromancer is.

    NVM BRO.
