Re: Ornstein and Smough
Hey, Smough is weak to lightning and Ornstein is weak to fire. Buff your weapon with each resin if you can. I like to take down Smough first and then fight giant Ornstein!
You can summon knight solaire to help with the fight.
You can summon phantoms. Always lots of signs at the start by the first gargoyle. Also some signs at the bonfire after the 2 annoying archers.
Umm, or you can do what I did: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VGbSd61iEro
Good luck !

Eagle Shield, upgraded.
Weapon +10, use Solaire to tank some damage while focusing on the other one.
Get some Green Grass to use as stamina regeneration.

Re: Ornstein and Smough
First time through they can be sooo tough. My mantra was the 3 P's: Pillars, Patience, and Prayer.
Get used to using the pillars to block for you, don't worry so much about attacking at first, get used to their attacks and how O & S behave when there's a pillar between you and them. It'll pay off eventually.
The first half of the fight is where patience is most important. You have to time your attacks so carefully. DON'T GET GREEDY! The best time to attack Ornstein is right after Smough has missed with an attack, since his recovery time is long, but if you can't get a clean shot on Ornstein you have to make yourself wait for the next time. Patience, patience, patience.
Btw, the Eagle Shield is great for this fight.

What? No, with a Claymore +10 you will still have your paramstats. They only go away if you make it Fire, Chaos, or Lightning.

Re: Ornstein and Smough
I am no weapons Guru, but from what I know your weapon upgraded through the normal path doesn't loose any scaling parameters. It will keep scaling with your str and dex...
The only way to loose scaling is when you upgrade it through an elemental path like fire or lightning or make it raw
Enchanted and magic scale with intelligence and divine and occult scales with Faith.
Chaos does scale a little bit with humanity.
I guess I was ninjaed... (?) Is that the correct term?...

Sorry about my English LOL, I just wanted to say that I have Claymore +10 and some guy told me to make it lightning, and I said that I don't want to make my Claymore a lightning claymore because then his paramstats will disappear.
I've almost beat the boss with Knight Solaire, but he died and then Smough did his lightning jumo and kill me.
Someone in the forum about level 60 and want help me with the boss?

Re: Ornstein and Smough
Level 60 is a great level for co-op; there should be gold and white signs all over the floor in the bonfire room. It sounds like you're close, though. I vote KEEP AT IT! Every time you die you learn.
On the other hand, Anor Londo co-op is a blast.

Actually there is no so much COOP, I mean there is no SS on the floor so much...
And how can I avoid Smough's lightning jump?

The lightning butt bomb has a massive range, I usually never have time to get out of the way, so I keep the eagle shield for that battle. I believe if you can telegraph the attack, and start running or rolling when he jumps, you should make it out of his attack range.

Re: Ornstein and Smough
That lightning jump is the bane of your existence against the boss. When fighting Super Smough, keep a pillar between you and him and run in to pop a hit off every time he whiffs an attack, then get your *** behind the pillar. That way, he probably won't jump.

Re: Ornstein and Smough
That's a surprise. You go human at sl60 at that bonfire at least 4 or 5 signs will usually instantly appear. Strange.Branstone wrote: there is no SS on the floor so much...
Assuming you have a fast roll (25% or less equip load) you should be able to roll away twice when you see him jump up. That'll give you more than enough space. Blocking works too, though, especially with the Eagle Shield. If you have the Dark Woodgrain Ring life becomes much easier, as you can fast-roll with up to a 50% equip burden.

Re: Ornstein and Smough
I think somebody may have mentioned this but I didn't read each post, so if I am being redundant excuse me.
It will pay off to not bother attacking the first few times. Just go in and get to know their move sets, i.e. which attacks they do at various ranges. Once you got that down see how they react to your attacks. For instance, usually after three consecutive hits un-upgraded ornstein will studder, so you can lay on some more or wait and time it so he is in perpetual stun lock (not entirely possible but you can keep it going for a good chunk of his health)
And as others said, be patient, the fight takes a while.
As a side note, on NG+++ a summoned solaire killed orny before I could finish smough!

Re: Ornstein and Smough
I'd recommend being 50% equip weight with the DWGR on (I hate that thing for PvP, but I'm not against it at all for PvE!) and Grass Crest Shield on your back, 2H your weapon (especially a +10 Claymore, that thing will be great agains them). O&S's attacks are pretty easy to dodge, only thing you need to look out for is to make sure you know where both of them are at all times and what they're up to. Once you take one of them out, then you just need to know the moveset of whichever one is still alive, and how to dodge it, and the fight is very easy. So it's just a matter of knowledge and practice.
You can go for either Ornstein or Smough first. If you want to kill Orny first, take advantage of his mobility to separate him from Smough. Get some distance on Smough, and Ornstein, with his greater mobility, will come to you. That will give you a window to take him out, without being swarmed by both. If you want to kill Smough first, then keep him right in between you and Ornstein. That way, most of Orny's attacks won't reach you around Smough! Do be careful, though, since the Dragonslayer Spear is long, so if Smough isn't right between you and Orny, it'll reach you.
Whichever one you go for, you need to remember to focus on dodging first, and attacking second. Your main priority is avoiding taking damage, dish it out when you can without placing yourself at risk. And even if you get a generous attack window, always save some stamina for a quick getaway. So never get in more than 2-3 hits per window.
You shouldn't have much trouble taking one out this way. If you're up against Super Ornstein, the trick is to stand right between his shins, and hack at them. If you're alert, he won't be able to hit you under there, except with his lightning jump (I prefer to fight him without lock-on, since his quick and large movements can really throw off your dodging if you're locked on). If you're up against Super Smough, stay close to him. His hammer attacks are pretty easy to dodge, then you'll get generous windows to attack him. In either case, you want to stay very close to them, because both have rather vicious mid-ranged attacks (Orny's rushing spear-stab grab attack, when he raises you in the air and shocks you; Smough's hammer rush, which is quite tricky to dodge in his Super form).
Also, it's rather easy to stagger them, especially with a claymore. Take advantage of this, it'll give you free hits and can interrupt their attacks, but always remember to save yourself some stamina. You can take out Ornstein very easily and rapidly early on in the fight by staggering him a few times, but keep an eye on Smough. Then, once you're fighting Super Smough, get familiar with how many hits it takes to stagger him, and you can use than to your advantage by strategically interrupting some of his attacks (like a lightning butt-stomp) rather than dodging away.
Anyways, I got a bit carried away! Long story short: practice; learn their moves, how to keep an eye on them, how to maneuver around them, dodge, and take advantage of attack windows. Dodge first, attack second, save your stamina. Good luck!
