I just usually invade with my darkmoon when ever I get a chance (now we have done mass invasions of the forest though which is always a bucket of laughs)- but sometimes my two gravelord toons will participate in mass gravelording of certain areas.

Re: For the Glory of Alvina
Basically we regale each other with tales of glory when we get a chance. Or it used to work that way. Been out awhile.
On a sidenote I know why the trees were always my favorites thanks to the dlc. They descended from the scarecrows

It's more like: It'a not From's intetion for us to use party chat. And that's because this game is ment to play with randoms. On other hand, that Xbox doesnt have a party text chat isn't that surprising. The big difference between Amercan consol and Japanese consol is that Japanese will always make things wierd and complicated, but also old school. My bet is that Microsoft thouht: "Everyone talks english, headsets are included. Text chat gtfo!!!"

It's one of the few stupid decisions from made.
Not only can you private chat with 1 other person IN DARK SOULS anyway, this idiot rule also prevents you from party chatting with someone playing a completely different game...and for what? If you really want you can make 3+ people party chats with 3rd party setups anyway...but the fact that most gank squads are 2 man and that private chat works just fine makes the party chat ban frustrating and pointless.
On the flip side, why would party chat be so bad? You could easily party chat with random players then, and aside from calls outside of someone's sight range the advantage isn't that large. The inconvenience cost coupled with literally no benefit is off-putting. It was stupid when Modern Warfare 2 did it and it's stupid in Dark Souls...no point in defending it.
I also don't understand why it's acceptable for gankers to dogpile on people but not FH. IMO FH should be ganking hosts as much as possible - it's part of the covenant, and if you want DUELS you can easily use the red soapstone or set them up somewhere the covenant doesn't imply each person actively trying to kill the host.
IMO the dishonorable forest hunters are not the ones that gank the host, but rather the ones who refuse to help their brethren and waste an invasion slot. These "honorable" FH are even worse when they stand by even after the host heals up...it's pathetic and nonsensical. Subjecting others to imaginary rules is the dishonorable thing, not playing by them. There is ample opportunity for duels elsewhere. If you're in the forest, you're in a different set of rules!

Re: For the Glory of Alvina
Can you see what you did there? What if someone doesn't want to play with these "different" rules? What if someone tries to respect hosts who are looking for duels? What if the host doesn't know about the dueling culture in burg and doesn't like the DLC arena?TheMeInTeam wrote:Subjecting others to imaginary rules is the dishonorable thing, not playing by them. I'm not saying i disagree with you. I don't like it when other forest hunters don't help me. But you can't really blame them. Everyone has their own set of rules in the forest. All you can do, is hope your ally to help you, but you can't expect it.

Actually the decision to leave out partu chat was a very thought out one. They went back n forth but decided to leave it out to maintain the feel of the game. If u dnt like it then u can just stop playing

The "different" rules are the rules the GAME ITSELF provides. If people want to play by different rules, they need to make that agreement with others up front, not screw other people via not trying, by definition.
But you can't really blame them. Everyone has their own set of rules in
the forest. All you can do, is hope your ally to help you, but you can't
expect it.
Of course you can expect it. In fact, it SHOULD be expected. That's what the covenant is for. What one SHOULDN'T do, unless they like dying unnecessarily, is RELY on the help. Let's face it; even if someone is trying, that doesn't mean they won't get insta-gibbed via bs/lagstab or a strong spell and leave you 1v2 anyway. It happens to everyone sometimes. Because I'm still < SL 80 and hunt in the forest, I die quickly sometimes (though I win a surprising # of hunts vs higher lvls, as I do have a good set of pyromancies and high poise).
Sometimes the help is really competent too. I saw in one case a higher level FH manipulate it such that he and I switched opponents and I got the host instead of the phantom, because the phantom had ridiculous fire resists and I opened up with my glove out already. That was a good fight.
Actually the decision to leave out partu chat was a very thought out
one. They went back n forth but decided to leave it out to maintain the
feel of the game
And yet still allow private chat while blocking party chat with people in other games? Nonsense. Especially so since it will create a barrier for many but definitely not for all.
If u dnt like it then u can just stop playing
Easy off on the sheep/crap statements please. Just because a game is good/great doesn't mean there weren't poor choices made for it, or that it couldn't be better. The party chat mistake is very correctable too.
There just isn't any rational basis for banning the convenience of party chat when any pair of people can just swap into private chat and accomplish the exact same thing in 90+% of cases in dark souls.

I'm going to add my two cents to this discussion - I'm in the same mindset as FinPeku in that I try to take in consideration several factors which will cause me to fight a forest host honorably or bang him to death. Any invader who has few dozen forest invasions under their belt will have learned when a host warrants a bang (i.e lag switcher, chain BS, estus abuser, ganker, etc) and when to sit back and possibly see a good duel between two fighters who are trying prove their technique is better. If the invader is killed by the host then the better man (for just that fight) has been chosen - now its my turn.
Everyone has their own rules in the forest so in way I see this as the beauty of the place. But I also see the forest as place to get extreme fight training and to observe tactics and techniques you may not see anywhere else. I have been banged by hunters and hosts (more savagely by hosts in my opinion) so many have the same mindset in that anything goes in here. But my response to this is - did you become a better fighter after you finished banging (R1 like a mutha!!) some poor soul? Probably not.

Dammit broke I was up to one of my full steam rant posts and you have gone and made it completely unnecessary. TLDR; observe 1v1's if host is playing fair dont gank.

Re: For the Glory of Alvina
At last! I have a tale of glory
Invaded a guy and see "dark spirit summoned"
I doubt they plan on dueling. Both come at me but the descendants of the scarecrows are all alive and well. The host falls back. Red follows. I draw out the red into the trees. He's trying to dodge and let the host work in. I poison him. Blueberry buff (I'm into sorcery these days) and his medium shield and panic can't stop the scythe. Meanwhile, a second hunter has arrived and cut off the host. One brutal murder later and Alvina is pleased.
I've also been working the plow into my arsenal. Holy crap on the damage. It's pretty crazy for a spear weapon.
EDIT: I've decided to call the living trees "Skarekrow Tree Descendants" or "STDs" for short
