It's funny how I can have a good night of forest hunting despite losing most of my fights to double teams. It is the victories that make it all worth it. Case in point:
I invaded the same guy 3 times last night. In fact he was the only guy I had a repeat invasion with. The first time I killed him and his phantom with the help of a fellow hunter. It was such an epic fight, with trading off and covering each other. I made a forest hunter friend when it was all over.
The second time I invaded, I caught him alone. It was close, but again I was victorious.
The 3rd and last time he had a friend and the forest hunter ally was afk. I hate afk forest hunters both as a hunter or as a host. Fortunately for me the phantom was slow, awkward, and timid. He would go for a BS when I was fighting the host, but would back off the moment I waved my sword at him. In other words, not much help. I used loyds to keep the host from healing, and killed him, despite having to dance around to avoid the BS.
That alone would have been enough, but I would be treated to one more epic moment. My last fight of the evening was against a zeiwehander wielding robed opponent. I invaded. He buffed with fire. We fought 1v1. The speed of my washing pole against the brute force of his weapon. We fought tactically, always shifting, feinting, and baiting each other. In the end I won because he got impatient and tried to finish the fight quicky with great combustion. I fight GC all the time with my lvl 12 sunbro in the burg where one hit is death. We both were down to about 20% health and I showed him how the washing poles' reach was just long enough to avoid most of the fire damage he was attempting. Two counter hits were enough to finish him.
But the best was yet to come. 234,000+ souls. At lvl 93 I had just beaten a lvl 440 something. For me, a great way to end an evening of forest hunting.
