"Potential Spoilers Ahead"
I remember my very first few hours of this game, lol!
I kept using the sword hilt not paying attention because I've been programmed to just run along and wait for games to tell me what to do or just follow an arrow on a map and not even pay attention to the environment or my surroundings. If I had read the messages on the ground I would have know to get my shield and to grab my sword and I wouldn't have spent 5 min on a hollow hacking him slowly away with my not so trusty sword hilt. Once I finally made it out of the asylum and made it to firelink I didn't even see the path to the Undead Burg for my first few DAYS of playing. I of course went down to New Londo Ruins and got my @ss handed to me over and over by ghosts not knowing that my weapon had no effect on them whatsoever seeing how far I can just run through without dying.
By stupidly picking the master key as my starting gift I had my first real "Dark Souls experience".
I was crossing the bridge across the Valley of Drakes and slowly walked toward the pitch black cave that I would soon know to be Blighttown. The feeling of pure dread and loneliness set in in away that no other video game has ever done before. I was literally scared of what I would find inside. I walked far enough to see one of the phatty's ahead and almost $hit my pants, turned around and ran back out of the cave turned right and booked it down the path and across the bridge only to find a giant "dead" dragon and thought "it's dead, I'll just go ahead and grab this gear left behind by this guy and be on my way" "imminent Pants $hitting Ahead" then I was back at Firelink Shrine.
That experience was one of my best game experience since I was a child. It may not sound like the most amazing scenario to most, but it was my first "dark souls moment" and it blew me away. To be so immersed into a game world and literally be scared of what may lie ahead is and amazing achievement by From. I can only applaud From Software and Miyazaki for creating such a beautiful masterpiece, an amazing work of art in every way. The experiences you have throughout the game are so meaningful and filled with emotion and if your not paying attention you can completely miss them. The NPC's side quests like Siegmeyer of Catarina, and the Boss's back story's like the the Bed of Chaos and the Witch of Izalith are so rich and filled with sorrow that it can make you cry once you finally realize the story and how it all fits together in the world.
I highly recommend going on youtube and watching the "Prepare to Cry" series by "VaatiVidya" They are so well done and well produced that some of them did make me cry. Dark souls is a one of a kind experience (demon's souls is a close second IMO) it can go strait over one's head and at the same time completely blow another's mind and change the way they think about gaming and what to expect from it, forever.
Please share some of your experience's and how and if they blew your mind.
Praise the Sun!
