    "Potential Spoilers Ahead"

I remember my very first few hours of this game, lol!
I kept using the sword hilt not paying attention because I've been programmed to just run along and wait for games to tell me what to do or just follow an arrow on a map and not even pay attention to the environment or my surroundings. If I had read the messages on the ground I would have know to get my shield and to grab my sword and I wouldn't have spent 5 min on a hollow hacking him slowly away with my not so trusty sword hilt. Once I finally made it out of the asylum and made it to firelink I didn't even see the path to the Undead Burg for my first few DAYS of playing. I of course went down to New Londo Ruins and got my @ss handed to me over and over by ghosts not knowing that my weapon had no effect on them whatsoever seeing how far I can just run through without dying.
By stupidly picking the master key as my starting gift I had my first real "Dark Souls experience".
I was crossing the bridge across the Valley of Drakes and slowly walked toward the pitch black cave that I would soon know to be Blighttown. The feeling of pure dread and loneliness set in in away that no other video game has ever done before. I was literally scared of what I would find inside. I walked far enough to see one of the phatty's ahead and almost $hit my pants, turned around and ran back out of the cave turned right and booked it down the path and across the bridge only to find a giant "dead" dragon and thought "it's dead, I'll just go ahead and grab this gear left behind by this guy and be on my way" "imminent Pants $hitting Ahead" then I was back at Firelink Shrine.
That experience was one of my best game experience since I was a child. It may not sound like the most amazing scenario to most, but it was my first "dark souls moment" and it blew me away. To be so immersed into a game world and literally be scared of what may lie ahead is and amazing achievement by From. I can only applaud From Software and Miyazaki for creating such a beautiful masterpiece, an amazing work of art in every way. The experiences you have throughout the game are so meaningful and filled with emotion and if your not paying attention you can completely miss them. The NPC's side quests like Siegmeyer of Catarina, and the Boss's back story's like the the Bed of Chaos and the Witch of Izalith are so rich and filled with sorrow that it can make you cry once you finally realize the story and how it all fits together in the world.
I highly recommend going on youtube and watching the "Prepare to Cry" series by "VaatiVidya" They are so well done and well produced that some of them did make me cry. Dark souls is a one of a kind experience (demon's souls is a close second IMO) it can go strait over one's head and at the same time completely blow another's mind and change the way they think about gaming and what to expect from it, forever.

Please share some of your experience's and how and if they blew your mind.

    Nice story, thanks for sharing!

I don't remember all that much from my first playthrough (was quite a long time ago), but I do remember I didn't like it very much at first! I had come straight from Demon's Souls, and didn't expect I'd need to adjust my gameplay as much as I really did. For example, all the mobs in DeS were very aggressive. It was so easy to get near enough to aggro them, roll back to dodge their imminent attack, then kill them with a counter hit. I immediately tried to rely on that same tactic in DkS, only to have the improved AI really annoy me! Those damn spear guys just turtle, while other guys rush you, etc. So I banged my head against the game for a while, didn't enjoy it.

Then, the more I played, and the more the varied environments really sucked me in. I always play a fast and agile character, but when I got to the Tomb of the Giants, had no light, and was surrounded by giant skeletons out for my head, I actually packed on all the heaviest armor I had and tanked my way through. It was completely against my nature, but I was forced to do it to proceed, and I loved that the game made me change my play style like that. My jaw literally dropped the first time I went down to the Demon Ruins. It was a bit like the first Diablo, how you keep going lower and lower--from Parish down to the Burg, down to Lower Burg, down to Depths, down to Blighttown, down to Demon Ruins--and you literally ended up in hell! By that point I was already very much in love with the game, but that just sealed the deal for me. I also loved (still do) the Bed of Chaos ( twisted ) for the same reason--that she changes the way you play the game.

What I remember most from my first playthrough is how the game had to win me over, and how it did!

    ^ Nice story Bow

I too had a hell of a time my first time in the Catacombs/Tomb of the Giants. I had a pretty rough time in the Catacombs but after awhile found the sign for Leroy and prevailed over Pinwheel, well Leroy did a great job anyways.
As we know now, you don't go into the TotG until you get the Lordvessel, so you can warp out, plus you need it to progress the orange fog gate. It being my first play through I didn't know such things and ta-boot didn't have a light source. Ok, so I'm creeping along in the pitch black not believing that a game could do this to the player. Loving and at the same time hating every moment that goes by. Finding patches was a funny treat, immediately following a bunch of bone towers b!tch slapping me across the face with 30 different sets of hands. Made may way around them back up to Patches, cleared up a few thing with him and progressed onward down the unbeaten path only to meet my first Dog Skeleton. 30 to 40 deaths later I finally made my way to the last bonfire. I was so happy to find another bonfire. Such a feeling of accomplishment. I felt like I had traversed down into blackness for miles, only to find a suspicious looking fog gate that I soon realized that I could not progress until I further unlocked more of the game. Excited that I had found some unknown secret that I will need to later unlock, I failed to realize that my venture back to the surface would be a long and hard journey that would further test my patience beyond what I have come to expect from games today.

I could rant like this for every area in Dark souls. big grin

It's been a while since I first started but what sticks in my mind the most was making my first sunbro on PS3 (I didn't have the internet for about a year but still played a lot offline)...

When I got the net back and went online straight away I was getting summoned non-stop to help against O+S all day long. I didn't realise how constant it was going to be. I loved the bowing and all that good stuff. One guy dropped me 20 item humanity just to be nice which at the time was amazing to me.

But yeah so many amazing moments.

Coming out of the Fog to see the Asylum Demon for the second time. I stood on that platform for a few moments going "Right... Now do I walk off and do a regular attack? Or there a special mid-air attack button? Or do I have to figure out how to jum- OH GOD HE'S JUMPI-"

I learnt a valuable lesson: Never stop moving.

That one hollow soldier in Parish whom I did not notice going under the gate towards the cathedral and hearing something closing behind me. Then noticing it was that hollow turning the lever to trap me in a new unexplored area. Loved it!
