Ganking…In The Catacombs?

i was invading the Catacombs with my SL50 INT build (butterhorn and moon sword) and i ran into allot of gankers there. i wasn't even aware that anyone did that sort of thing in the Catacombs.

i repeatedly ran into the same thing…a phantom in full havel's, two handing the artorias greatshield and standing like a roadblock in the hall leading the first bonfire, a second phantom with a buff of one kind or another and the host standing at the top of the ladder spamming dark magic or soul spear. i have no idea what level they were but i think it's safe to say that they were allot higher than SL50.…imagine my surprise when i spawn in that room and realize i'm gonna get raped before the the fight even starts.

i know i was asking for it as i was the invader and i'm sure that all the questers making a run for the rite of kindling really appreciated their police action. still it must not have been very fun for the gankers though, waiting around for an invader and then killing them in less than a second only to wait around some more.

after several invasions ending in the same way, i decided that it would be less painful to invade the forest (imagine that lol). seriously though, how could that even be fun for anyone? for the gankers or the invaders? you'd think that the gankers would be bored to tears, never mind the frustration of invading them over and over.

I thought that nothing can suprise me in this game anymore and then you have to just stroll here like it's nothing and prove me wrong.

I can top that!

Wait. Nope. Got nothing. That's crazy. Every time I've gone catacomb invading I've only ever found solo hosts. Most of them scared out of their mind to be invaded (even when invading with my main, high level character). The only thing tempering my surprise is the fact that the Burg used to be a good duel spot and then it was overrun similarly for awhile. Ditto for the Kiln, Both forest sections, etc. etc.

i have seen gankers in the catacombs for a while now but theyre very rare from my experiece. the archives has way more gankers from what ive seen.

Only ganking I've done in Catacombs is waiting for invaders with the first stone door closed. That way, they can't run away, which they LOVE to do there, even more than in Township and have to fight me instead.

Got some hatemail for that.

How odd, but then again no area is off limits to gankers. Hell I've been ganked in the Tomb and Izalith, but never in the catacombs. Maybe the forest has gotten boring for them?

Maybe the Forest has gotten too difficult for them. You are guarenteed only one invader in the catacombs with no room to manuever.

So you're saying that's somehow easier than two hunters and about ten Skarekrow Tree Descendants?

I kept getting summoned via RSS by a guy and his phantom. I wasn't specifically looking to duel anyone. It was the only area my friends character could summon me for a fight. After winning the first few times. They proceeded to spawn camp me and I had to stop putting my sign down because they hadn't stopped trying after like an hour.

Perhaps the most annoying case of ganking was me summoning a phantom in the Depths at around sl 35. There was an invader, so we took care of him first and I set off for the Gaping Dragon. The phantom black crystaled out because I wasn't ganking. Shoulda known, his face looked like every other gankers

Nothing beats kick gankers two handing havel's shield on the painted World bridge.

If you want any at all decent PvP match, you've got to host in Burg, that's my experience, bring Dried Fingers to help invasion with, and summon red phantoms in-between, you just can't hope to get fair game invading any more, either you turn out to be a griefer or you get ganked...good invasion fights are rare and far between...

i mean i wasn't being unfair or trying to ambush the host or hiding amongst the bonewheels or anything. i was hunting them down as aggressively as possible. 1v1 or 3v1, i wasn't backing down or cowering behind the mobs. that's my job right?

i was actually surprised how many hosts disconnected after i invaded or ran off only to find themselves in a meat grinder of unkillable skeletons (which was great fun to watch from a safe distance). once i blew a host off the ledge right near the second necromancer and got 877 and some odd thousand souls (thank you moonlight greatsword).

even still, all i could think was "you gankers must be really bored right now" or there were allot of Dark Wraiths hanging around to even make it worth while.

thank goodness the invasions were coming really fast yesterday. i never waited more than 30 seconds between invasions and i wasn't placed in the gankers world every time. it was still enough times that i gave up and moved to the forest though

no worries…i have a dragon bro that i use when i'm looking for 1v1 pvp. i still get the odd spawn ganker even as a dragon bro, thankfully those are all 1v1 so it's not nearly as bad as facing a squad of over leveled goons.

Not too surprising. I've been ganked everywhere. Some of it has been some good elaborate traps and I've got to hand it to the gankers for ingenuity. It is much more common in certain areas, but present in all areas I have invaded.

EDIT: I can't recall being ganked in upper b-town, but that's it.

Note to self: Start gank squad in upper B. Town. I will seem original and cool there....

Fog Ring, Force or WoG, win. Or, play hide and seek. Upper B-town sucks to invade. I got my 20 kills and don't plan on going back.

i'm not even sure where the spawn points are in upper blight town?

It is a royal PITA. You spawn near the first bonfire, but have to go across the thing moving walkway.

That's how I actually look when someone invades me there and tries to run across the moving bridge.

Sounds to me like they're doing whats called Guerilla Warfare. Its basically anything goes type of play. Someone sets up a gank and then people try to break the gank using any tactic they have at their disposal. Using the environment, trapping, etc....etc.... its actually kinda fun. But yeah people usually do it in the catacombs or Sen's....

you don't even need a posy to gank in Sen's. two-hand a heavy shield, polish up your kicking boots and wait on one of the bridges near a pendulum. okay, so maybe it's trolling more than ganking, but the laughs are so worth it.

Actually just ran into some gankers in Upper Btown. Weird ones. Something like SL100, waiting at the ladder just after Gaping dragon, right at the top. Taunting until you go up the ladder. Right as I went up to the top, they would spam GC or try to hit me. After a while I just waited at the bottom. When all of the sudden a gold, white, and multicolored figure came falling right at me...Plunging attack. I was dead, and then I watched as they all went right past, having overshot, and fell to their deaths.

So many souls for an SL28 in upper Btown.

It was... a very odd experience. It was back when you could still ninja flip with full havels. Essentially as soon as I invaded the game I was greeted with a few fat ninja flippers that preceded to poke me to death with the Dragonslayer Spear. I can't remember what exact armor they had on but I can remember all three of them had on a Xanthous headset. It actually took a few invasions but I was able to separate the host and knock him off the Izalith highway thanks to a very friendly titanite demon.

Fog ring and Great Bow is just mean. Knock someone either to their death, or to another random platform, where they become hopelessly lost, and then repeat. Serves the invaders right, I suppose.
