Re: Why a Claymore?
The moveset. Its a decent speed and hits pretty hard. At least that's why I like it, but since I usually make Dex character, I usually just turn the Clay into a Fire or Lightning weapon so I can do a bit better on the damage side. That's my opinion anyway

The Claymore is a great all around weapon. It has the ability to dead angle, the rolling R1 has good reach and is fast, and the damage is good if your STR/DEX is split well. It used to be a better weapon before the patch. For PVE I prefer a slightly faster weapon, but for PVP it is solid.
One of the downsides recently is that because it is so popular, good PVP players parry the attacks easily. Still, it is a solid weapon.

Re: Why a Claymore?
moveset - pretty awsome
(but i also like the bastard no one talks about, only the 1hand R2 and rolling R1 is different...well no poking, but a fast downward slash)

Re: Why a Claymore?
For both PvP and PvE, it's moveset is one of the most versatile. It's got a great range of arcing, poking, and vertical attacks as well as having good reach that makes it useful in almost any situation. Most other weapons have limitations on when it's optimal to use them (spears aren't so good for fight's like the Capra Demon, Great Hammers aren't good for fights in small corridors, rapiers are risky when fighting on narrow ledges, etc), but there is not a single situation the Claymore can't handle on it's own.

I find the Longsword good in every situation, too. The Longsword and Claymore are nearly identical, apart from power, looks and attacks speed.

Re: Why a Claymore?
I loved my +10 Fire Claymore, if you can land a Jumping R2(RT xbox), faces melt. As stated, it's fast, lengthy, the running R1 is fun, and really it mostly just looks epic, makes me wish I could do a William Wallace emote and throw the sword before a PVP match

Re: Why a Claymore?
The moveset is versatile, for one. Wide-arcs, long reach thrusting, downward slashes, 360 sweeps; it has something for any situation.
Secondly, it is a Quality-Greatsword weapon, which means that it has the highest potential damage when maxed, in addition it means that it can work for 2 different builds.
Thirdly, it is of the lightest kinds of Greatswords.
Admittedly, the Flamberge is pretty boss over the Claymore (Curved Hybrid with Bleed!? Blasphemy!), but this weapon has an outstanding amount of pros and little cons.
