If you experience lag enough that all offensive magic is cheap and any body using it is cheap, then you have a bigger problem, and it's the potato you use for a internet connection. I fight magic users just like everybody else, and I don't care if I get OHKO'd. I just learn to be more careful the next time. And maybe 1 in 20 casters I fight come with awful lag, so what? It's a VERY small minority and I don't care if I loose once in a while. It is after all a game, and games are meant to be won and lost.

Never proved it but I think hidden body lags the hell out of magic particularly pursuers. Then again it might've been just 2 laggy random encounters.

Well, thing is, some people have lag and can't do a lot about it, and magic is far less forgiving than Melee for lag. The sheer speed of Dark Bead too doesn't bloody help. I've fought a fair few mages and it's always the ones using traditional magic that I have the closest fights against, but Dark Magic's glass cannon nature is genuinely difficult, especially if it comes down to the literal case of them seeing you before you see them.

Note that Ring of Fog has similar, but not identical effect. The spells will still activate on you, but you have to be closer than usual for them to do so.

No detrimental effects? The dusk crown reduces your magic defense by like 20% to 30%. This doesn't just apply to spells, it's all sources of magic damage including the MLGS.

This is only detrimental at certain breakpoints. It lowers your actual magic defenses, not the damage you recieve per say.
In other words, you will not recieve an actual 20% realized increase to magic damage from your opponents.
A lot of people say 250, 300, and maybe even 400 are defensive breakpoints. If the CoD takes your magic defenses from 320 to 256, you might not see as big of a rise in incoming magic damage from an opponent.
This is why the CoD is op'd. Its the new MoM.
