So what would you suggest for a PVP noob? Empty So what would you suggest for a PVP noob?

    Post by butternut86 Sun Mar 10, 2013 5:13 pm

So far I've beaten the game as a Strength build using a manserpent Greatsword +15 with magic buffs, and as a dex/faith build using a Claymore +15 and buffed with Sunlight blade and Darkmoon (when I was in the covenant) . I liked the Claymore build more

I liked using faith and magic buffs.. both have their strengths and weaknesses. I like the Force and Wrath of the God's miracles as a faith build. But I also liked Crystal magic weapon in my original playthrough.

What's a better build for PVP.. the Faith or intelligence route?

What's the recommend equipment to use. For PVE I liked Manserpent and Claymore. But when I PVP'd I liked the quick weapons like Gold Tracer and bandit's knife.

So what's a good build with the weapons/style I like?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The better build for PvP is a strength or dex route.

My first PvP build was a Str/Faith. Dex is always the easier path and both Faith and Int are good.

So if I make a PVP character, you're saying I should forget about putting points into Intelligence or Faith.. just go pure dex or pure strength?

If you like buffing builds then stick with it! they're very fun i find and you can really enjoy them a lot...

Maybe try a more dex oriented buff build. Try out this maybe?

Or if you want more magic to mix it up, maybe try this:

I don't like magic. Each time I fight them it always follows the same path: Keep dodging and wait for them to run out of OP spells to spam, curbstomp them afterwards. A lot of other people know to do that too.

If I was new to PvP I would go with a spear. Either a defensive-type or offensive type spear user. They're easy to use, and work against everything.

If you want some ideas here's my collection.

A dexterity/faith combo will probably be easier to get wins with.Strength weapons require a lot more swing commitment and are more easily punished after a missed swing. The buffs will make the normally weaker DEX weapons do a lot of damage until the buff runs out.I would recommend the great scythe since you've used strength builds as it is one of the slower DEX weapons but it does a lot of damage unbuffed and has wide sweep attacks so it may seem more familiar and easy than a katana or falchion.

This build is just a suggestion.

^ That's kinda like the way I''m going with my first build as well, but mine is a bit more like a tank (invested with more vitality than strength rly).

For people that are new to PvP all I can say is just get some random invasions and/or 1vs1 formal matches going, they help by giving you some experience on how people play, ur going to lose a lot at the start, but, ur going to be learning in the process as well.

Also another good thing is to experiment w/ weapons, magic, pryo, etc... and see what fit ur style of play.

Dang that's a lot of Vitality... I'm not sure if I'll go that route, but are there a lot of PVP opportunities at soul level 150?

Do you think a Vitality build is good for a PVP noob? I never thought of it, but it might be great, and with the Lightning Zhei like someone suggested maybe it could work out well?

I'd like to go around soul level 100-120. I don't want to go too high because I heard that the PVP gets unfair once the lvls get really high.

What you hear about unfair pvp play at the higher levels is not correct. It is more challenging, which I would recommend as a player everyone should do. Now if you choose to play the game thinking about builds this and builds that you will eventually become bored very quickly. Plus staying at the lower levels you limit yourself at facing all fighters in the game for your particular gaming console. Staying at 120 you will mostly face noob players closer to your level. 80 to 90 percent will be newer players. The higher you level the more the percentage rises on competitive experianced players. Im 710 so I basically face people who are all experianced fighters. When I fought at 120 that was not the case. For every 1 good fighter I fought 30 to 45 noobs. That will really give you a false sense of superiority in this game.

Now I would probably advise you to strip down everything you know about this game and build yourself back up. Try fighting without any type of advantage. No buffs of any sort. No ring buffs for higher attack damage or magic. No try hard buffs with combos ranging from Crown of Dusk on your head with crystal catalysts or manus while spamming beads or any other ridiculous spells for easy OHKO. If you are on a journey to being a good player and respected for skill then work at skill, not at advantages. Because its easy mode and anyone can use Try Hard methods to win all their fights. Look at the scoreboard at the arena. All of those people used Try Hard methods to get there and we as veteran players know that. Twop, power within, dusk crown, crystal catalyst, ect..ect. LOL. What will keep this game fresh in my opinion and replayable is challenging yourself by fighting at disadvantages. Victories are way more satisfying when you win using an unbuffed weapon with no ring buff or magic buff what so ever. When they are not using ring buffs Martyrsbrigade and Mrbushido are fine examples of real players who challenge themselves. And I know quite a few japanese players up here in the high levels who do the same. They can kill you with a broken hilt and no armor, those are real players in my opinion. Everyone else pales in comparison. In the end it is your choice on how you want to play this game. You can be like everyone else or you can choose to be different. Challenge yourself, and be different. Just my opin.

Thanks for the advice. I've faced a lot of people in PVP who spam magic like those Pursuers or use TWOP and its extremely frustrating to fight against. I enjoy a challenge, but too often there are people in this game who take the easy way out.

Just yesterday I laid down my invasion sign to duel with other player and to gain experience. Out of the 5 pvps I participated in, 1 was a real duel. The rest were cheap. I got bombarded by two people against me in one fight. Another fight someone made themselves invisible when they summoned me and shot me with a strong Soul spear to one shot kill me when I didn't see him coming. And the worst was when I was bowing and expecting a fair, clean PVP and the person ignored my bow, casted TWOP and backstabbed me while I was bowing.

So believe me, I don't want to be anything like those kind of people. I want to fight fair and I want to win fairly.

I'll take your advice and level my character higher then. I currently have a SL 143. The toon has about 36 vitality, 40 endurance, 34 strength, 40 dexterity and 36 Faith. What would you advise for a build like that? I currently use A claymore +15 for PVE and a gold tracer +5 for PVP.

Should I bring that toon higher, is it even viable for PVP?

Your stats are not min/maxed and are too spread and with low Vit even at SL 150. You might want to post a thread of "help me with this build" and use mugenmonkey for planning a new build.

Try not to go over 27 str for any build. When you 2 hand your weapon your str gets a 50% bonus and any str above 40 gets little or no gains on the weapon attack rating. That unless, you are striving for weapons like demon greataxe, grant..etc

I would recommend you go Quality if you're starting off. Quality builds are 27/28/40 strength, and 40 dexterity. It allows you to use a vast amount of various weapons, which in turn, helps you learn the ins and outs of each weapon. And if you really want to buff, use a resin.

Maybe after using the build for awhile and experimenting with a variety of weapons, you find yourself using the Claymore and Gold Tracer a lot (just as an example). From there you can make an INT/FTH oriented build to suppliment the Claymore/Gold Tracer combo.

Here's an example of a Quality build - http://mmdks.com/1evj Mix and match weapons as you please
And here's an example of supplimenting a Quality build with Faith - http://mmdks.com/1evm

I'd also like to butt my ugly opinion in here and say that buffs, while fun to use, tend to become a crutch for some players and also have the tendency to make duels.. not so fun. They are very useful for random invasions and chaotic brawls like the forest, however, in duels they're a little op on most weapons and any smart player will just turtle/dodge you until it wears out, thus nullifying your major offensive tactic. Again, my opinion, just keep it in mind.
