    A small analogy in the sword category. Empty A small analogy in the sword category.

    Post by EeAyEss Wed Mar 27, 2013 6:34 pm

    Broadsword is to Longsword as Bastard Sword is to Claymore as Zweihander is to Greatsword.

    By that, I mean that the Longsword, Claymore, and Great sword have diverse movesets, as per their ability to slash and stab, while the broadsword, Bastard sword, and Zweihander lack, for the most part, thrusting attacks.

    What is interesting is that, when thrust attacks are considered so predominant in PvP, the Zwei is used more than the Greatsword.

    One might argue that the Longsword should be replaced by the BSS, but seeing as how versatility is key to the analogy, the BSS was discarded due to no sweeping attacks and the fact that the Longsword will always be better.

    Thoughts?

    My only thought is the BSS is the longsword of dex builds.

    The answer is simple here:

    Broadsword is best sword. Nothing else is better.

    I actually like the Broadsword's moveset over the Longsword. I still like the Longsword, but the constant, fast sweeping attacks is really good on 0 poise enemies. Does a ton of DPS as well.

    The long sword is so much better because in dark souls the long swords diversity in attack will save your characters life on many occasions. Not to mention it's much stronger than the broadsword.

    Erm, no it isn't. Only on counters can it be stronger. Normal attacks are a bit weaker. Also, I played through the entire game with the Broadsword, with literally no problems.

    Right, it's higher AR (broadsword) vs. a more diverse moveset (longsword)

    Zweihander makes people go splat, which is why it's used more....

    Splat = more fun.

    The zwei breaks the pattern because it has lower stat requirments than the greatsword.

    Long and Broad are the same, (man do i love the longsord), and Clay and Bastard are the same.....

    ....although I'm sure MM is right about the splat appeal too. silly

    This is how I've thought of these weapons since long before I joined the forums. This is how I view straight swords, greatswords and ultra greatswords
    longsword=claymore=greatsword
    broadsword=bastard sword=zweihander
    balder side sword=estoc
    Sunlight straight sword= Demons Souls knight sword=stronger, heavier longsword
    Astora straight sword=fancy, divine longsword
    silver knight sword=fancy sword
    black knight sword=black knight greatsword
    drake sword=dragon king greatsword
    obsidian blade=Grant
    moonlight greatsword=unique

    Broadsword also has the range of a dagger (not a video game dagger, a real one). I wouldn't use one unless a had a nice bit of poise stacked on.

    I use a Broadsword with a Calamity Ring and 22 poise sometimes. The forward steps on its R2's really make up for its slightly shorter range.

    My first and only thought on this is kind of how non-useful it is.

    Of how non-useful the analogy is? You are right, it's nothing serious or useful. The "analogy" is just a small observation.

    The Zwei is longer and lighter than the greatsword, and gets an even more viable poke attack with the roll, there's no reason to get hit by the GS's r2 because it's so damn slow.

    GS's R2 is faster than the BKGS's, and people still get hit by that one.

    The greatsword has the same rolling thrust as the Zwei

    So does the DGM, but I don't think it does thrust damage it just is a thrusting attack

    If it's a thrusting attack, it most likely deals thrust damage. The developers made everything in this game for a reason.
