I wish I had some talent with this, I'd love to base one off of the face of a Chaneller. Six eyes on the mask. Six eyes on the shield with a similar design.
Maybe a little nod to Seath even further, having every mask with a strike mark through it from wear so it's now blind. Maybe mention that the shield once had some sort of magic that was lost over time, the piercing gaze it had lost forever.

I want to learn Japanese but it's such a different language than the ones I'm used to that I don't think I'd have any chance of getting anywhere short of immersing myself in the culture for a couple years.

I spent years learning it, and even then, I don't know everything. But still, it's worth trying. If you have the time. As you may know, I had 12 years, from 17 to December last year, and not much to do with them, so I educated myself with a lot of new talents and skills, rather than play games.

Immersion is the best way to learn, but even then, with a bit of study, and watching a lot of Japanese tv and movies you can learn a lot. Don't let kanji scare you, it is really difficult but you can learn how to speak and listen before that, which is surprisingly easy. Japanese pronounciation is really easy for English speakers (whereas English pronunciation for Japanese speakers is really tough !)

The red magma shield reminded me of a self portrait I took using long term exposure photography and a glowstick. Five minutes later and we have that thing

I can post the original pic and you'd see. I could always use a red filter on a normal pic but the glow stick has nice advantages. First, unlike a filter the color and lighting aren't uniform. The original has streaks. Second, the long term exposure shot in the dark minus the stick means that there won't be any background. The stick, waving in front of my face only has enough light to illuminate me
