BSS comes into it's own with the R2's damage and quickness to execute. always felt the dark sword was shorter, just a feeling i got the few times i used it.

The longsword and sunlight straight sword don't get counter damage?

Only thrust attacks get counter damage, and only physical damage is counter damage. The longsword does get it (idk about the sunlight sword,) but it requires a heavier investment than the bss.

As far as swing speed goes, the Silver Knight Straight Sword and the Dark sword are slower than the rest.

Ive read on several different threads that the Sunlight Straight Sword swings slower as well. Is this true?

Solaires sword and the longsword have the same swing speed I believe, I've tried testing it many times. Slight length and damage increase over the longsword, but with a an extra 1 weight

Swing speed is the same, recovery is slightly longer, and AFAIK SLSS is one of the slower ones.

Slower straightswords are: Sunlight Straightsword, Dark Sword and Silver Knight Straight Sword.
BSS is the best of the straightswords for it's longest reach and scaling with DEX and can be a total nightmare when used with Leo ring, but I dont think it's faster than other straightswords (except the ones I listed above).

Personally I got the feeling the BSS swings a bit faster from the moment I picked it up. Can't say for certain without testing but might be something worth looking into. As for length, I think the BSS is longest, along with maybe the Darksword.

BSS takes the #1 spot imo, stat investment is minimal and the results are really good. runners up are (IMO) silverknight and sunlight. silverknight has the awesome property that its 2h R2s are greatsword 2h R1s (they break 52 poise) also it ats up stamina really well when they block so 2h R1 pressure into gueardbreak into 2h R2->R2 combo deals about 800 dmg and happens quite often. sunlight sword is best on a quality build and does the highest dmg coupled with the best moveset, combos are chained together easily!

Longsword > BSS
I prefer the moveset and the R2-R2 combo is pretty devastating. The 2 strikes also track independently. Worth the extra stat investment IMO.

I'm addicted to the BSS now. I just got one(actually a few) early on in my 2nd playthrough and used Lightning Reinforcement. If you use the BSS should you also use the Leo or Hornet ring?

Leo. BSS has pretty low critical hit damage and with the hornet ring you would just make it slightly better then average.

i know it's not the best, but the coolest is definitely the darksword.
on the positive side it's r1 is just as fast as the broadsword's but with slightly longer reach. it's r2 is really fast and has a nice combo that tracks well. on the downside the r2's reach is much shorter than you'd think it should be. it's biggest drawback though is that is heavy and for that extra weight you end up with exact same attack rating as the broadsword. i'm pretty sure that FROM made an error in judgement when spec'ing the darksword, it really should be much better than it is.

Darksword swings slower than the broadsword.
Besides the swag factor, challenge, and Darkwraith cosplay, there is no reason to use the Darksword. I just use it because it looks awesome.
