But this time the flickering has one definite parameter: Online play. Which means somewhere in the network code there's an issue. Certainly could be, as the patches break after a bit. They patched the game, they patched the PSN, but they neglected to patch the DkS server system both times.

wait a tick…shutting down the dark souls servers for maintenance? i thought that dark souls was peer to peer, so there shouldn't be any dark souls servers that need maintenance. i'm confused.

p2p gaming without a Tracker (or some sort of) wouldn't be impossible, but well use *some* traffic....and would probably cause some troubles for the whole internet. The server are only used for matchmaking, after that the clients communicate direct. It is possible, that the messages and ressonance rings informations also are going over this server, so a patch could help....
If i where FROM i would have made the resonance ring thing seperated from game patches if possible in any way. So they don't have to patch the game again, after Sony destroyed their work again with a PS3 Firmware Patch (i start to believe Sony did it on purpos).
If they did that, the server maintainace could resolve the problem.

1-2 weeks for patch certificaton and it will be in EU/US (1.08 was the same thing). Also there is some text about changes/updates to DLC area. Google translations are really bad.... When the patch notes are out we will know more.
