It doesn't surprise me.
In a game with player trading, there's always going to be people willing to sell rare items for high prices.
Look at 2007scape, I've seen a lot of people in areas like Varrock and Lumbridge selling rare drops for the really high prices those weapons were before the update that gave every weapon in the game the same special attacks.

And If I remember correctly again, that would mean it's somewhere around $30 USD for 1m in 2007scape.
That could very easily happen in a game like Pokemon, especially with things like shinies or EV/IV Powerleveling.

In PokeMMO they removed Houndour from the list of pokemon you can find in the wild(Dumb move, Houndoom is awesome)
Now Houndooms cost an incredible amount of money, regardless of if it's shiny, or EV/IV trained.
