We all know why crystal weapons are so rarely used (they can't be repaired). However, i was just looking around on this wiki and found that a +5 crystal tower shield has 90 stability, which beats artorias' shield by 2. Obviously when it degrades the damage from bashing will go down, but i never bother with that anyway. What is important is: will the stability remain the same when its broken? I assume the physical resistance will stay at 100%, but i have no idea whether the stability will change. Can anyone shed light on this?

Re: Crystal shields
is the crystal tower shield the highest stability shield in the game or is there another crystallized shield that would provide more?

Re: Crystal shields
I have no idea how shields work when they are broken, but I assume it would just penalize the bashing attack and take of most of it's damage.
It sounds like a pretty damn good shield though, I might have to try it out sometime on a heavy build.

Re: Crystal shields
I think defensive stats lower upon breaking. They do with armor at least. So my guess is that it would no longer block 100% damage. That's a guess though. Worth testing I suppose......perhaps I have a new shield

Re: Crystal shields
Broken Shields have 0 deflection property, so enemies no longer bounce off the them. I can't directly find any problems with this idea, except that I thought crystal items completely vanished once broken?

Re: Crystal shields
They have no deflection? Thats a shame, looks like i'll stick with artorias' then. I wish they could have made crystal weapons repairable, wouldn't have made them (almost) useless. Also, i have no idea what happens when crystal items break, since i've never used them. I assumed that since normal weapons don't disappear when broken that would also apply to crystal.

Re: Crystal shields
Deflection is for PvE, it means enemies will never stagger when hitting your shield. It would not effect PvP at all though.Shakie666 wrote:They have no deflection? Re: Crystal shields
Meh, i never bother with pvp much, and if i did i wouldn't be using a greatshield anyway. The main reason i use a greatshield in pve is for deflection, it really helps a lot when up against a small army of hollows. So no deflection = pretty much uselsss.

Re: Crystal shields
In that case, the Eagle Shield won't help you as a Crystal Shield, stick with Artorias.

Re: Crystal shields
Well, i've just done some experimenting with a crystal knight shield (assuming its the same for a tower shield, which it will be). When fully broken, it still has the same durability and it still has deflection, but the damage reduction for all types of damage is halved. In the case of the knight shield, it has 50% physical reduction, 15% magic, 30% fire and 20% lightning. That makes it pretty much useless. Goddammit From, why did you have to make crystal stuff pointless?!?

It's like the glass sword in Final Fantasy Legend II, it's super powerful but you need to choose what fight it's worth bringing to.

I'm so tempted to gift a low level with a +5 crystal wooden plank shield, for maximum trolling.

Probably feed it to Fraampt without checking the stats.

Re: Crystal shields
As I understand it, the Crystal Ring Shield is repairable. Is this so? Not that I use it much but I found it useful against Gwyndoline and the Moonlight Butterfly on second playthrough.

I meant ascending a shield with crystal, rather than normal, not the crystal ring shield .
