Re: ps3 console advice
My thoughts are...get exactly the same model. You should be able to swap in your hard drive unless you have Playstation Plus or all your saves are already backed up. PS4 is not coming out this year, PSVita is, new handheld.

Re: ps3 console advice
Swapping out the HDD will require a reformatting, no matter the model.
My suggestion would be to look at your local craigslist to see if there are any places nearby that do fixes for your problem (is it YLOD or is it not reading discs?). Once you get it fixed I'd get PSN+ to backup your saves in case the fix is temporary.

Re: ps3 console advice
PS4 will not come out until at least the holiday season at the end of 2013. This is the best time to buy a PS3. My fatty RLOD'ed last fall (lost 5 amazing Demon's Souls builds) and I got a slim, which I haven't had any problems with at all. They are only like $250 right?

The disc drive is shot. I have it apart and could replace it, but the console is an 07. Probably time for a new one.
Thanks though!

Re: ps3 console advice
I just had my disc drive fixed for $75 locally w/ a 90 day warantee. Beats throwing down $250 for a new console...

Re: ps3 console advice
I had to get a new ps3. One of the rare blu ray failures :\ lost my lvl 99 lost planet 2 char. All my final fantasy 13 progress. And etc. It was depressing but its worth to either get an ethernet cable and transfer the data if u can acess the menu.

Re: ps3 console advice
If I count the things I lost when my PS2 memory card was gone, you guys would not believe. After I got the PS3, my father, in a rage moment, destroyed the PS2. I still like to play classic games in my friends house. What I'm saying, its better to buy a new PS3 even if there is already a PS4 (of course there is not but you got the ideia).

I still have my n64. I held on to that system forever. I only went to ps2 when they stopped making new games. What is you favorite n64 game?

Yeah, I tried the eject and re-insert disc method about 20 times, but nothing. Smacking it got no response either. It is dead.

No purring, but it is in several pieces. I decided to start from scratch on my new ps3 with a dex/int build. Was invaded in the Parish by some farging icehole (censors) in giant's armor with an Avelyn. I was maybe lvl 15 with standard weapon & armor for *'s sake!
That must be the bottom box glitch stuff I keep reading about. I messaged " an avelyn in the Parish? what a jackbottom!(censors again)" . I got no reply.

Re: ps3 console advice
I like starting fresh on new characters. Bringing stuff from a previous game makes the game a easy walk through. I like a challenge, but that's just me. I'm working on beating the game with my sl16 on psn. I just beat 4 kings and let me just say wow. Tough battle right there. I'm not leveling him up so if u want to co op with any low level guys, let me know.

Wow, that would be tough. You can't take many hits at that sl.
